The 'Shopee x Visa: Sellers Grow Beyond' initiative is part of the 5-year partnership between Shopee and Visa. Between April to September 2021, more than 77,000 sellers have joined and benefited from this program. It also found that sellers with Visa credit/debit card payment option saw 130% higher spending per transaction compared with sellers who do not have such payment option. Successful sellers include a fashion store, which has been able to generate 1,500 transactions valued at 4 million baht through payments via debit and credit cards within the first month of joining. Data have also showed that the top five categories are products for Kitchen & Dining Room, Outdoor & Garden, Toys, Books, and Home Decor.

Suchaya Paleewong, Senior Marketing Manager, Shopee (Thailand), said, "Since we initiated this program, we have supported Thai SMEs in driving their business and generating substantial growth in e-commerce. With e-commerce growing rapidly and more consumers spending online, we have organized a workshop to impart knowledge to Thai SMEs to help them grow sustainably long-term, alongside Thailand's digital economy. This is also timely for the upcoming Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale, where we will expect a surge in shoppers for the year-end shopping season."

Suripong Tantiyanon, Country Manager for Visa Thailand, said, "Making purchases online is now a way of life for Thai consumers. The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of online shopping among existing and new online shoppers providing a tremendous opportunity for digital merchants. Sales fundamentals, technology, and digital support are key to realizing growth and profitability now and in the long run. This is why we are pleased to work with Shopee to continue supporting digital merchants to embrace digital services, help them remain resilient, and prepare them to race ahead in the post-COVID era."

The demand for digital services is rising across Southeast Asia and in Thailand. In 2021, 40 million internet users came online bringing the internet penetration in Southeast Asia to 75 per cent. Of these new users, eight in ten have made purchase online at least one time. In Thailand, nine out of ten Thai internet users (90 per cent) have made at least one purchase online. This is the second highest in the region only to Singapore at 97 per cent .

On 30 November, Shopee and Visa hosted a workshop featuring e-commerce experts and representatives from top-performing stores on Shopee such as Rodmay Kaneungnij Jaksamittanon, DJ Petjah Wichian Kusolmanomai, and Jack Jaksakol Ittisatta of M.I.B. Marketing In Black, who shared their experiences and tips on growing their e-commerce businesses. There was also an exclusive online business course titled "How to increase sales and close deals fast on Shopee", which was streamed on Shopee Live.
