A delegation of 90 participants from Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) Digital CEO program visited Telenor Group's global headquarters in Oslo, Norway to gain insight from digital transformation in the Nordic region.
The Digital CEO program led by depa, aims to promote and support the development of Thailand's digital industries. The program is designed to inspire and prepare high-level executives from both the public and private sector to serve as key drivers for enhancing Thailand's digital competitiveness. This was the eighth batch of participants since depa was established in 2017.
During the visit, Telenor's telecom executives and industry experts provided the delegation with insights into the ongoing digital transformation in the Nordic region, showcasing use of AI and 5G in healthcare, transport, cybersecurity, and data centres.
The Nordic region's exceptional digital competitiveness is driven by high mobile penetration, robust data usage, and excellent 5G infrastructure. This is further bolstered by comprehensive digital strategies, a culture of collaboration and innovation, and widespread adoption of technology.
"This year, Telenor celebrates its 25th anniversary as an investor in Thailand. As a long-standing partner to the country, we are pleased to share knowledge and insights that benefit Thai business leaders, support digital transformation, and help people in Thailand build better digital lives," said Jon Omund Revhaug, EVP and Incoming Head of Telenor Asia.
"Sharing digital transformation expertise and lessons learnt between Telenor executives and Thai executives not only provided benefits but also strengthen relationship.I appreciated the opportunity for our Digital CEO delegation to visit Telenor headquarters and gain insights from advanced Nordic markets.' I am confident the insights and use cases shared by Telenor today will greatly benefit our participants," said Mr. Teeranun Srihong, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, depa
Telenor entered Thailand in 2000 by acquiring an ownership stake in Total Access Communication (dtac). As an industrial owner and investor, Telenor has contributed to the rapid development of Thailand's telecom sector over the past 25 years, introducing new innovations, operational models, and services for the benefit of customers, shareholders, and society. Today, people in Thailand have enthusiastically embraced a digital life and are among the most connected in Southeast Asia, spending an average of almost five hours per day online.
The merger of True and dtac was concluded in 2023, creating Thailand's leading telco-tech company. This was the largest telecom merger in southeast Asia and the largest merger of two listed companies in Thailand. Telenor and C.P. Group are equal partners in True Corporation, with an ownership stake of 30.3 percent each.
