Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai brings a sustainable flair to the holiday season with a series of programs all through December. From dining and Resort activities to traditional events such as the Christmas tree lighting, the action-packed agenda is underscored by the Resort's commitment to the local community and meaningful partnerships. "Our Christmas tree this year will reflect the skilled craft and artistry that Chiang Mai is renowned for," shares Sean Mosher, General Manager, Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai and Tented Camp Golden Triangle.
Artisan Craftsmanship: Handwoven Holiday Decor
Led by the Resort's Chief Gardener Pondkaran Kantha, the tree symbolises the spirit of the season - sharing joy. Pondkaran is not only a wizard of gardening, but is also remarkably talented at weaving beautiful macrame art. "This intricate craft brings a sense of calm and focus, making it both a source of creative expression and mental relaxation," she smiles. The idea of using these weaves as ornaments on the Christmas tree came to life as she was sharing her skill with the team. "We thought, why not decorate our tree with this and give our guests an opportunity to participate too?" she shares.
Community and Sustainability: A Heartfelt Collaboration
As part of the initiative the Resort collaborates with an orphanage, locally known as Wat Don Chan School, which is focused on improving the quality of life for orphans, impoverished children, and underprivileged youth. "Our team shares the art of macrame using locally sourced Chiang Mai cotton with the children of this school and together, we guide them to craft beautiful, handmade ornaments - each filled with the spirit of the season," says Pondkaran. As the holiday approaches, these ornaments will be carefully placed on the Christmas tree, transforming it into a symbol of creativity, community, and care. "Guests can bring home a piece of this initiative by making a donation for these handcrafted decorations, creating a cherished memory of the season," Sean shares, adding that all proceeds from ornament sales will be donated back to Wat Don Chan School, supporting their efforts to provide a nurturing environment and essential skills to these children. "Weave the joy to inspire generosity, celebrate giving back and embracing the beauty of handmade artistry!" he grins.
