It's that time of year to make a wish and celebrate Loy Krathong, the most picturesque of Thai festivals, by the riverbank of the stunning Anantara Chiang Mai Resort.
Falling on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, Chiang Mai's Ping River comes alive as residents and holiday makers alike embark on its banks and release beautiful lotus-shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers to the Goddess of Water.
On the lawns by '1921 House', the magnificent teak mansion and the centre-piece of Anantara Chiang Mai, guests can indulge in an extravagant buffet dinner with mouth-watering gourmet delights including fresh seafood, barbequed suckling pig and Northern Thai dishes and desserts. A special performance of the ancient tale of Manohara and Prince Sudhana will entertain guests which also includes theatrical Lanna style drumming, fire and sword shows and traditional dancers.
Guests can also enjoy a special four-course dinner aboard the resort's JAO Ping River Cruise. Departing from the resorts own private pier, passengers can observe the festivities taking place at all the riverside temples, as well as enjoy classical Thai music and dance performances while on board.
Festive celebrations for Loy Kratong night on the 15th of November begin at THB 3,200++ per person for the buffet and THB 1200++ for free-flow drinks and a 50% savings for children aged 5 - 11 years. The JAO Ping River Cruise runs from the 14th-16th of November and is priced at THB 4,900++ per person for four courses and THB 1200++ for free-flow drinks.
