Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) strengthens food security through its partnership with the Royal Thai Navy, launching an egg-laying chicken project at the Naval Agricultural Center in Bang Phra, Chonburi. The initiative ensures a sustainable supply of high-quality eggs for naval personnel and their families, demonstrating CP Foods' ongoing commitment to supporting local communities.
Royal Thai Navy Chief Admiral Jiraphon Wongwit revealed that the Navy has collaborated with CP Foods for over 30 years. This partnership has recently extended to the development of activities at the Bang Phra Naval Agriculture Center in Chonburi Province, under the Naval Welfare Department. The initiative allows personnel and their families to consume premium eggs while benefiting from agricultural demonstration plots, which serve as learning resources and welfare support for the Navy. The project has been supported by the Charoen Pokphand Foundation and CP Foods, including the construction of chicken coops and the provision of layer chickens and animal feed at special prices, ensuring the project's sustainability.
"Over the years, CP Foods has consistently supported projects and facility improvements. Recently, the company upgraded three egg-laying chicken houses to meet hygienic standards, enhancing production efficiency, which reduces costs while increasing egg availability," said Admiral Jiraphon.
Prasit Boondoungprasert, CEO of CP Foods, stated that the project aligns with the "Three Benefits" philosophy of Dhanin Chearavanont, Senior Chairman of the Charoen Pokphand Group—focusing on benefits to the people, the country, and the company.
He emphasized CP Foods' commitment to contributing to the Navy, which plays a crucial role in protecting the nation and its people. For over three decades, CP Foods has supported the Navy's agricultural programs by leveraging advanced technology and expertise to promote and develop standard farming systems. Notably, the company donated closed-layer chicken houses with Evaporative Cooling System (EVAP systems) to the Bang Phra Naval Agriculture Center in 2002, providing welfare for Navy personnel and their families. In this latest phase, CP Foods supported the renovation of EVAP systems, feeding equipment, water systems, ceiling and side curtain systems, and bird and snake-proof netting.
"The egg farming project represents an academic and social collaboration that supports the Navy's goal of creating learning resources and welfare for its personnel and their families. CP Foods provided funding and transferred knowledge from its expert team to enable personnel to independently manage the project and further serve as knowledge disseminators to others," Mr. Prasit added.
The Bang Phra Naval Agriculture Center has also established agricultural demonstration plots, such as pig farming and layer chicken farming, for Navy personnel, their families, and the public. Additionally, these facilities serve as vocational training centers for personnel and their families, equipping them with career skills for retirement. Currently, the egg farming project is undergoing improvements in three chicken houses, each housing 5,000 chickens. Construction is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2025.
