Diageo Moet Hennessy (Thailand) or DMHT and the Kenan Foundation Asia announce the significant progress of their collaborative venture, the "Learning for Life Enhancement Program," as it completes its second year. This initiative, first launched in 2008 and later included in Diageo's 10-year sustainability plan 'Society 2030: Spirit of Progress', celebrates its 16th year in 2024. It stands as a growth in empowering people, focusing on bolstering Thailand's tourism industry by equipping individuals with essential skills vital for the sector's recovery post-COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted Thailand's tourism sector, affecting expenditure and causing repercussions for the food and beverage retail industries and SMEs. However, in 2023, there was a remarkable recovery, with the tourism sector growing by 76% and the hotel industry by 39%, employing over 4 million people, or 11% of the country's total employment. In response, the Learning for Life Enhancement Program adapted to meet industry demands, offering tailored curriculum addressing contemporary needs like critical thinking, workplace diversity, and CV writing, equipping participants with vital 21st-century skills. In addition, the program also collaborated with META We Think Digital to provide knowledge on cyber security for the participants, including scams, password security, and online purchasing
Over the past two years, the Learning for Life Enhancement Program has left an indelible mark by extending opportunities to over 3,000 beneficiaries, with a significant focus on empowering women and youth. This project aims to support unemployed individuals in the service industry, university students, and those enrolled in vocational and technical programs. Impressively, data analysis reveals that 72% of participants transitioned into gainful employment, underscoring the program's efficacy in bridging the gap between skill acquisition and industry demands. These skills, including communication, persuasion, negotiation, and English proficiency, have played a pivotal role in facilitating this successful transition.
