The beauty industry is one of the constantly-growing industries. According to Euromonitor, in comparison to the global market, the cosmetics and personal care market in Asia Pacific is significantly large. It is projected to account for 67% of the global market, with a value exceeding 13 trillion THB by 2027. The domestic market continues to experience continuous growth. According to the Trade Policy and Strategy Office's data from 2022, the domestic market expanded by 12.1% when compared to the previous year, amounting to a value of 25,953.6 million THB. It is expected to expand by 10.4% this year, equivalent to a value of 28,651.2 million THB.
Regarding exports, the Ministry of Commerce reported that, in the past year, products falling under the categories of cosmetics, soap, and skin care products had an export value of 112,859.69 million THB. This marked a 17.4% increase from the previous year. The top export products were hair care followed by cosmetics and skincare, soap, oral and dental care products, deodorants, shaving and bath products, and perfumes and fragrances. The top 5 countries we exported to were Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and China. For the first 8 months of this year, the export value reached 76,090.65 million THB, which is a 2.32% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Cosmetics and skincare products have become the topmost export followed by hair care, oral and dental care, soap, deodorants, shaving and bath, and perfumes and fragrances products.
There are four key trends that are currently spreading globally and will continue to be popular until 2024: The Conscious Beauty trend emphasizes beauty from within, focusing on environmentally friendly, 100% natural, cruelty-free products that also benefit communities and society. It has become a value for many new-generation consumers, leading them to choose products that align with their values. A prominent market research firm, Mintel, has revealed trends in the beauty industry. The first trend is NeuroGlow which involves holistic self-care, including the consumption of dietary supplements that promote physical health and healthy skin. Mintel reports that 70% of consumers in the U.S.A. are willing to buy products that enhance skin beauty and improve mood, even if they are more expensive. The Beauty-AI trend is gaining prominence as it transforms the beauty industry by utilizing data, such as feedback from social media, lifestyle, environmental factors, and genetic information, to analyze and develop personalized products. It involves virtual beauty assistants that provide customized advice and recommendations based on individual needs. Finally, the Sophisticated Simplicity trend is driven by consumers who value ingredients in products more than external packaging; they decide which products to buy based on ingredient information and are willing to pay more for effective products.
"Have been actively contributing to the growth of the beauty industry by organizing COSMEX for the 8th consecutive year, RX Tradex has witnessed significant developments throughout this journey. Therefore, we would like all Thai business operators, especially SMEs, which make up the largest portion of the beauty industry, to have the opportunity to explore the global scene, observe trends, and discover new innovations. Importantly, we want them to see how success in the beauty industry can take shape. Participants at the event will have the chance to update themselves on beauty industry trends or discover new trade partners to incorporate into their own products," stated Mrs. Varaporn.
Within the event, there will be showcases of the latest technology, machinery, and equipment for manufacturing cosmetics, personal care, and dietary supplements products. This will also include OEM manufacturers, packaging services, beauty devices, and finished goods. In total, over 200 companies and more than 200 brands from 22 countries have filled booths for COSMEX 2023. It is expected that this year's event will see no fewer than 25,000 participants.
