OR joins forces with Thai Airways to launch the pilot use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Phuket Airport

Mr. Disathat revealed: OR today is powering Thai Airways' inaugural flight of the Phuket-Bangkok route with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Phuket Airport to prove its environmental awareness and concrete commitments. SAF is produced by UCO (Used Cooking Oil), the chemical properties of which are similar to and miscible with those of Jet A-1 and reliable in terms of compatibility without the need to alter or improve any engines. Apart from being lower in carbon dioxide emissions throughout its life cycle compared to traditional aviation fuels, this SAF underlines the collaborations between several bodies including Neste in Finland, which is the world's leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel, and PTT International Trading Pte., Ltd. (PTTT), a subsidiary of the PTT Group, which is a supplier and importer, and Petco Trading Labuan Company Limited (PTLCL), Malaysia, a distributor and transporter that facilitates the delivery of the fuel to Phuket.

The pilot use of SAF in the aviation industry of Thai Airways is thus a means to help the airline achieve its goal of reducing carbon footprints in the international aviation sector according to ICAO regulations and align with OR's policy of becoming an energy solution provider as well as OR SDG in part of "G" or "Green", which aims at mitigating GHG emissions throughout the supply chain and multiplying clean energy proportion to shape a healthy environment and effectively fulfill the OR 2030 goals. Moreover, it is reaffirming energy sustainability and bolstering the reputation of the country.
