Waterdrop Inc. Advances Sustainable Development with Completion of UN's Climate Ambition Accelerator Training

Press Releases »

Waterdrop Inc. ("Waterdrop", the "Company" or "we") (NYSE: WDH), a leading technology platform dedicated to insurance and healthcare service with a positive social impact, recently completed the United Nations Global Compact's Climate Ambition Accelerator (CAA) program in Shanghai, becoming one of the program's inaugural China-based graduates.

Launched by the UN Global Compact, the CAA program is a practical climate-focused initiative designed to guide corporations on setting science-based emission reduction targets. The program underscores the worldwide objective of limiting global warming to 1.5?C and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Participation in the CAA program's key modules - Foundation Building, Business Practices, and Driving Execution - has significantly bolstered Waterdrop's sustainability efforts. Equipped with an enriched global perspective and validated best practices, the company is now strongly positioned to garner commitment from stakeholders, including investors, leadership teams, employees, and shareholders.

The CAA program, initiated in 55 countries in 2022 with China's introduction in August the same year, has earned high praise and support from eco-conscious corporations in the country. According to the UN Global Compact, the CAA programme opens the path to a leadership role for Chinese companies in climate action initiatives, while also encouraging a broader range of firms to engage in implementing carbon neutrality strategies.

Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN Resident Coordinator in China, remarked that the successful graduation of the first cohort marks the beginning of a new journey towards achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with business leaders shifting their focus from capacity building and commitment to adopting more tangible and actionable strategies. Meng Liu, head of Asia Pacific Networks of UN Global Compact, expressed the expectation that multiple business accelerator programmes will not only fully empower businesses, but also facilitate the establishment of a global network for exchange, learning, mutual support and collaboration. The goal is to propel businesses across all sectors to actively contribute to hastening progress towards achieving the SDGs.

Waterdrop has maintained a commitment to energy conservation and carbon reduction through its robust environmental management system since joining the UN Global Compact in 2022. As a leading insurance technology and healthcare company in China, Waterdrop closely tracks key environmental performance indicators and promotes green initiatives, demonstrating significant progress towards sustainable operations.

Looking ahead, Waterdrop remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable development. The company plans to implement a series of measures, including strengthening environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, enhancing corporate governance practices, advancing technological capabilities, promoting green and low-carbon strategies, and fulfilling social responsibilities.
