Depression is often misunderstood, and many people confuse feelings of disappointment or loss, which might be temporary as being depressed. Whereas these feelings are still valid, depression can also impact anybody and is not a sign of weakness. Most of us will be affected by low moods and emotions occasionally. All sorts of things can impact our emotions and feelings, triggering depression and events in our daily lives.
Sometimes, these low moods might persist for days, and not show any signs of dissipating and even get worse. When accompanied by physical symptoms such as rapid weight loss, difficulty sleeping, reduced appetite, and losing interest in the outside world, this begins to fit the broader definition of depression. If anyone has been experiencing these symptoms for at least two weeks, they should visit a specialist.
Many can't pinpoint exactly why they feel so bad, but addressing the emotions associated with depression before they deepen can significantly reduce the symptoms. Proper early treatment can help many individuals experiencing depression to start feeling better quickly; for those who have been living with depression for a while, treatment can take a little longer, but it is still possible to recover fully.
Healing the root causes of mental health issues is one of the methods used to help those experiencing depression to get back on track. This method includes various natural treatments such as emotional therapy, yoga and meditation. Mindfulness-based and mind-body practices can help maintain a stable mood and cope with rapidly changing behaviour and mind.
Having experienced his own challenges in this area, Robert Common, Managing Partner at The Beekeeper, recognises the importance of helping others to manage and improve their mental health. Robert said for those currently experiencing depression, "There is help and resources available both online and within society that are accessible. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to improve this access, but there are at least some services and information. Having lived through significant acute depression myself, I want to tell people there is a way forward that can enable you to thrive. For me, it was meditation and yoga that saved my life, and I hope the articles I write give people a glimpse into what can help, and what helped me, I write them to offer a resource to those who might not be able to access services"
