JLL announced that its corporate office in Bangkok has achieved precertification toward the WELL Building Standard. The achievement highlights the firm's commitment to designing and managing healthy workplaces for its employees. The firm is poised to be the first property services provider and one of the first companies in Thailand with workplaces certified by WELL Building Standard.
Managed and administered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and wellbeing, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind.
"When we designed and created our new corporate office in Bangkok, our people's wellbeing was at the top of our agenda," says Michael Glancy, Country Head of JLL in Thailand.
"The WELL precertification marks our commitment to improving our work environment and amenities for all our employees," he adds.
A human-centric workplace
With 1,450 square meters of useable space, JLL's office showcases a new activity-based way of working, which includes collaboration spaces, meeting rooms, concentration rooms, and sound-proof phone booths.
To help employees relieve stress, boost wellbeing, and bring happiness, JLL's office also offers relaxation from open views, ample natural light, green spaces with an abundance of tropical plants, and common spaces with comfortable furnishings. The human-centric workplace features a wellness room where employees can enjoy a full-body electric massage chair, meditation or even a nap. Fruits and healthy drinks are made available throughout the day at the large open pantry.
JLL relocated its corporate office from Sathorn Road in mid 2021. The relocation gave the firm an opportunity to create a more efficient, user-friendly and sustainable workplace at The PARQ on Ratchadapisek Road. Developed by TCC Assets and managed by Frasers Property Holdings, the brand-new grade A office development has achieved the WELL precertification, complimenting JLL's workplace wellbeing strategy. The development for which JLL is acting as the property manager is expected to be the first mixed-use development in Thailand to achieve the WELL certification.
Offices are here to stay
Growing influence of digitalisation and the pandemic has led companies to introduce hybrid policies giving employees the flexibility to choose their own work settings. At the same time, the existence of offices has been questioned.
Mr. Glancy says "There is so much change happening for businesses globally and the workplace is playing a key role as it reflects a company's value and purpose, which helps attract and retain top talent. Offices are here to stay and will continue to play a key role as a place where corporate culture, collaboration and teamwork can flourish. Employers must provide the spaces that staff want and need to use on a daily basis, which will also help create a greater sense of belonging, happiness and wellness at work."
In addition to the WELL Building Standard, JLL also designed its office to achieve the LEED certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
Going beyond getting its own office certified, JLL aims to help clients, whether they be occupiers or landlords, to get started with their sustainability journey.
