ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Thailand) or "STT GDC Thailand", a leading data centre service provider, today announced the official opening of STT Bangkok 1, the first carrier-neutral hyperscale data centre in Bangkok built to global standards.
STT Bangkok 1 is the first of two buildings in the STT Bangkok Data Centre Campus, which is strategically located at Hua Mak, one of Bangkok's business districts. The seven-storey building offers a gross floor area of 30,000 square metres and delivers up to 20 megawatts of total IT load capacity to support customers' business expansion with the ability to scale to 40MW.
"The launch of the STT Bangkok Data Centre Campus marks the first milestone for our company and a new era of digital infrastructure in Thailand," said Supparat Singhara Na Ayutthaya, Chief Executive Officer at ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Thailand). "With a CAGR of 26.5% projected for the industry[1], we are seeing a fast-growing demand for colocation services in Thailand from enterprises and cloud service providers that are continually expanding their business platforms to meet customers' evolving demand for digital services, particularly during this prolonged COVID-19 situation. With our capabilities, we are confident of capturing new demand and providing the strongest foundation enabling our customers to realise their visions for a smarter, more sustainable digital future."
"We had identified Thailand to be a market ready for growth and decided to invest ahead of the curve to ensure we have a well-established presence and are now poised for that growth. ST Telemedia Global Data Centres has a proven ability to replicate and scale in the markets that we have built a presence in, helping customers navigate and expand into Asia's fastest-growing yet most complex environments," said Clement Goh, CEO - Southeast Asia, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres. "By delivering to their expectations, we have stayed adaptable and accommodating of differing customer needs yet ensuring a consistent experience in every market that we serve our customers."
As the first and largest data centre in Bangkok that is both hyperscale-ready and carrier-neutral, STT Bangkok 1 offers companies, who are looking to expand into or within Thailand, a differentiated data centre colocation services model that raises the bar on design and operational excellence.
First data centre in Thailand to receive internationally recognised certifications from TIA, Uptime Institute and LEED
STT Bangkok 1 is the first data centre in Thailand to have been awarded both the TIA-942 Certification Rated-3 and Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Design Documents and Constructed Facility. Both are globally recognised standards for data centre infrastructure issued by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Uptime Institute respectively. The TIA-942 certification covers the telecommunications infrastructure and other aspects of a mission-critical data centre, such as the site location, architectural and physical structure of the building, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, fire safety and physical security. Uptime Institute's tiered certification evaluates a Tier III data centre to require no shutdowns for equipment replacement and maintenance.
The data centre was also awarded the LEED(R) Gold v.4 certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building program is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. The pre-certification demonstrates that STT Bangkok 1 has achieved high performance in areas such as water efficiency, energy use, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, and location and transportation, reflecting STT GDC's commitment towards achieving carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030.
In addition, the data centre complies with the most stringent physical security including multi-layer security, intrusion detection, physical access controls and 24x7 CCTV monitoring, and Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) to the highest level to offer the most secure operational environment.
Meanwhile, the data centre also achieved the global standard in information security and risk management, i.e. ISO 27001 certificate and the PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), which demonstrates the company's commitment to customers in prioritising their requirements by providing a reliable and highly secure data storage environment, well equipped to protect sensitive customer data against breaches with the most up-to-date international security standards, to support our customers' interests and business.

STT GDC brings to Thailand its expertise in serving the hyperscale market through STT Bangkok 1, which is purpose-built to offer flexible colocation services and seamless carrier-neutral connectivity provided by leading telecommunications and network connectivity partners. As Southeast Asia's second largest economy by GDP[2], Thailand's digital economy is projected to be US$53 billion by 2025, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% over 2020[3], and is expected to contribute almost a quarter of Thailand's GDP by 2027[4]. Throughout 2020, new consumers of Internet economy services grew by 30%, coupled with an 81% growth in e-commerce from 2019-2020. In line with Thailand's 4.0 strategy and Digital Development Plan, data centres are the crucial underpinning digital infrastructure that will provide sufficient capacity and coverage to support seamless digital service delivery.
