DHL Thailand, part of Deutsche Post DHL, the world’s leading postal and logistics group, has further displayed its commitment to improve their local communities by implementing a three day, career oriented training program, “Ton Kla Camp” (young plant) for more than 20 students of SOS Children’s Villages Thailand.

The training sessions include aptitude and personality tests for the participants, English language exams designed to improve performance at job interviews and a series of lectures and seminars led by DHL executives that features advice and practical tips on how to develop career success and personal development.

“All of us at DHL in Thailand are passionately committed to proactively and systematically responding to the educational needs of underprivileged youth in Thailand,” said Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina. “These youths have so much ambition, drive and potential. All they lack is the hands-on, helpful mentoring, career guidance and job qualification training that we are eagerly willing and qualified to provide.”

DHL’s provision of career guidance, mentoring and internships combined with financial support for SOS Youth and Education programs provides young students with the essential confidence, knowledge and life enhancing skills that is especially important in developing countries where career enhancing employment and empowerment is most challenging.

“At a global level, this project was initiated as part of our Group-wide GoTeach program, which aims to improve educational opportunity and employability for young people and better equip them for the working world. Our mission is to help children and young people from all socio-economic backgrounds develop and unlock their potentials and skills for their career development,” said Thomas Tieber, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding South Asia.

“We are very proud to have developed and implemented a wide range of programs and activities which are specifically tailored to the needs of these youths in our different partner countries all over the world,” said Mr Kevin Burrell, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam. “One of the primary success factors of these programs is the strong engagement of our employees who participate in all phases of the projects. At DHL, everyone works together with passion and a clear strategic focus on achieving a unified goal.”

DHL launched its global partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in 2009. The partnership helps provide young people between the ages of 15 and 25 with better opportunities for a professional career, an independent and steady source of income and a self-determined life. In addition to GoTeach, the company is also focused on GoGreen (protecting the environment) and GoHelp (disaster preparedness, response and recovery) programs.

Since 1971, SOS Children’s Villages Thailand have been supporting children who are orphaned, abandoned or neglected, helping them grow up in the most natural way possible and guiding them on their path from childhood to adulthood. There are 700 children being cared for in five SOS Children’s Villages all over Thailand - Bangpoo Samutprakarn, Hatyai Songkla, Nongkhai, Chiang Rai and Phuket - and SOS mothers provide children who have lost their parental care and a supportive and a loving home. Presently, SOS Children’s Villages Thailand has raised and delivered more than 500 responsible and independent adults who are living as valuable and contributing members of society.
