RosettaNet China Affiliate Launch Ceremony Held in Beijing

Today RosettaNet, a global e-business consortium, celebrated the launch of its newest Asia affiliate with the official opening of the RosettaNet China offices in Beijing. The ceremony, which was held at the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), marks the formal alliance between RosettaNet consortium and MOST. VIPs in attendance include Mr. Wang Xing Pei, Chief Director of Information Technology Department, Ministry of Commerce; Ms. Song Ling, Chairperson, China E-Commerce Association; Mr. Zhang Zhi Wen, Development & Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology; Mr. Bill White, CIO, Amkor Technology and Chairman, RosettaNet Executive Board; and, Mr. Liu Shuang Qui, Director of Department of New and High Technology, Standardization Administration of China.

Earlier, RosettaNet and MOST signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation Agreement (MOSCA), followed by the RosettaNet China Affiliate Agreement, as a critical first step in promoting the adoption and implementation of RosettaNet XML standards within China's high technology industry and ultinational companies. The strategic initiative brings RosettaNet's benefits, including improved operational efficiencies and lower transaction costs, to the People's Republic of China and signifies MOST's commitment to advancing e-business processes, such as RosettaNet's proven industry standards for supply chain management.

"The RosettaNet China affiliate will support the e-business requirements of China-based enterprises, thereby improving trading partner relationships and creating business opportunities locally and globally," said Bill White, chairman of RosettaNet's Executive Board. "Support of RosettaNet's e-business standards by the China government underscores MOST's long-term charter to define science and technology initiatives and programs that help accelerate local economic growth and development."

RosettaNet China will be hosted by the China e-commerce and e-logistic standard association under China Standard Association (CSA) and will align with the National "10th Five-Year Research Project," a government sponsored initiative focused on the discovery and application of critical B2B integration technologies and supply chain management practices for e-logistics, e-manufacturing and e-government integration, with an emphasis on converging the central government, regional resources and funding to build high tech reference sites.

"Working to create the RosettaNet China affiliate is a crucial first step to enhancing the high-tech industry's e-commerce and supply chain management processes. We expect that our efforts to promote the development and adoption of supply chain standards throughout China will result in a more streamlined trading network, allowing companies to become more competitive within the global economy," said Li Wu Qiang, deputy general director, Department of High-Tech Development & Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology.

"We are pleased to join the growing RosettaNet community by establishing the new China affiliate. This alliance will help China's high-tech industry more efficiently apply e-commerce solutions and enter into the global supply chain more rapidly, while extending opportunities for multinational companies to implement in China on a broader scale," said Dr. Zhang Zhi Wen, chief of automation, Department of High-Tech Development & Industrialization, Ministry of Science and Technology.

In conjunction with the China affiliate launch, several RosettaNet activities are taking place this week in Beijing and Shanghai, including the RosettaNet China Steering Committee Meeting, RosettaNet Semiconductor Manufacturing Board and Telecommunications Industry Council Meetings and the RosettaNet China Forum "Entering the Global Supply Chain," to be held at the Shanghai International Convention Center (Oriental Riverside Hotel) on 30 October. Event highlights include keynote addresses by the Minister of MOST and RosettaNet Executive Chairman, and presentations by RosettaNet's industry leading member companies Intel, Global eXchange Services, Nokia, Microsoft and Oracle.

The RosettaNet consortium operates on a global basis with formalized activities in the Americas, Europe and Asia. RosettaNet China, the seventh Asia affiliate to be created, joins RosettaNet Japan, RosettaNet Korea, RosettaNet Malaysia, RosettaNet Philippines, RosettaNet Singapore and RosettaNet Taiwan.
