HP's New Combination DVD+RW/CD-RW Drives Offer Greater Capability and Functionality with DVD+RHP's latest internal and external dvd drives allow for easy creation of customer DVDS and CDs - whether rewritable or write-once

Hewlett-Packard (Thailand) Ltd., Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) today showcased its latest combination dvd drives - the HP dvd200i (internal) and HP dvd200e (external). Both new drives offer DVD+RW (rewritable), DVD+R (write-once), and CD-RW (rewritable) capabilities.

Easy to install and bundled with easy-to-use software, HP's new combination drives allow consumers - from novice to expert users - to create personalized DVDs and CDs using a broad range of media, whether on DVD+R, DVD+RW or CD-RW discs.

"HP's latest combination drives come with fuss-free installation and comprehensive software that makes using the drive a breeze, whether creating DVDs or CDs, at home or in the office," said Khun Prasert Charoonpaisal, Chief of IPG, HP (Thailand) Ltd.

The Premier DVD+RW standard allows consumers to safely store large amounts of information like digital or analog video, data and photos, or create custom video and music discs and share these discs with almost anyone who owns a DVD video player or DVD-ROM drive.

"Our new combination drives also give users greater flexibility and more options, as they can now store their movies or up to 4.7 GB of data on durable, high-quality DVDs (equivalent to seven CDs) - whether using DVD+RW or DVD+R format," added Khun Prasert.

HP dvd 200i (internal)

Easy to install inside a PC, the HP DVD-writer dvd200i drive enables users to create DVDs from their own videos using the DVD+R or DVD+RW format. Users also can transfer analog or digital video directly from a camcorder or VCR to a DVD disc(1), create and play digital music CDs, and store large amounts of data safely and securely on both CD and DVD media. The dvd200i allows users to record up to 2 hours of analog or digital video onto a dvd video disc in less than 30 minutes.

The HP dvd200i drive offers the following technical specifications:

1. IDE/ATAPI DVD+RW/CD-RW drive with buffer underrun protection technology;

2. 2.4xDVD (re-write), 2.4xDVD (write), 8xDVD (read) speeds; and

3. 12xCD-R (write), 10xCD-RW (re-write) and 32xCD (read) speeds.

HP dvd 200e (external)

With its plug-and-play capability, installing HP's first external dvd-writer is easy. The HP dvd200e also allows users to record up to 2 hour of analog or digital video onto a dvd video disc in less than 30 minutes with the following technical specifications:

1. Fuss-free installation on IEEE 1394 or USB2.0-compatible PC

2. 2.4xDVD (re-write), 2.4xDVD (write), 8xDVD (read) speeds; and

3. 12xCD-R (write), 10xCD-RW (re-write) and 32xCD (read) speeds.

Bundled software

The HP dvd200i and dvd200e drives are both bundled with HP MyDVD Video by Sonic Solutions, a direct-to-DVD solution for DVD recording and editing that provides consumers with an easy, step-by-step method to transform home videos into interactive DVDs.(1)

Also included is HP Recordnow by Veritas to quickly and simply make custom music and data CDs and DVDs; HP DLA(2) to drag and drop files to CD or DVD directly from any application; HP Memories Disc Creator to create a digital photo slide show to view and enjoy using your TV and DVD player or PC; Power DVD by Cyberlink to play DVD movies on PCs; ArcSoft ShowVizTM; Multimedia EmailTM; MUSICMATCH JukeboxTM; and, HP Simple Backup(2) to store critical data reliably.

Pricing and Availability

The HP dvd200i and dvd200e will be available in selected Asia Pacific markets at estimated street prices of Baht 25,000 and Baht 29,000 respectively. Both dvd200i and dvd200e are expected to be available from May 2002.

HP already offers DVD+RW media that provide optimum compatibly and performance with HP DVD+RW drives and other DVD+RW drives. HP DVD+RW discs are already available at an estimated street price of Baht 600 in Thailand.
