The Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage invites designers to participate in the "Future Nostalgia in Architecture" design competition. This is a great opportunity to showcase architectural designs on an international stage through an exhibition at Architect '25, with a total prize pool of nearly THB 300,000. The competition is divided into two categories: student level and general public, allowing participants to explore creative approaches that respond to the theme of future nostalgia in architecture. Interested applicants can submit their entries online from now until April 9, 2025. More details are available at www.asacompetition.com.
Mr. Asae Sukhyanga, President of the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage, stated that Architect '25 is the largest architectural technology and construction product exhibition in ASEAN, scheduled to be held from April 29 to May 4, 2025, at Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. This year's event is themed "Reflecting on Direction: Past, Present, Perfect," emphasizing that architecture plays a vital role in shaping stories from the past, present, and future. The exhibition will include a variety of showcases and activities.
To make the event even more engaging, the Association is organizing a special design competition under the theme "Future Nostalgia in Architecture," inviting designers including professionals, amateurs, students, and the general public to submit their creative ideas. This is an opportunity for architects to interpret the theme, exploring innovative designs that link the past whether through social, cultural, natural, or environmental influences to the present and future using modern knowledge, tools, and technology. The competition has no restrictions on location or scale and uses Thailand as a case study to create a new approach to architectural design that reflects on the past through the present, leading to future innovations.
Future Nostalgia in Architecture refers to an approach that draws inspiration from past architectural forms while integrating modern innovation and technology. It is not only about aesthetics but also about meaningful connections to culture, society, and the natural world in both present and future contexts. The goal is to preserve historical values while adapting to contemporary human needs. While contemporary architecture often focuses on futuristic advancements, this competition challenges designers to create spaces that maintain continuity with the past rather than completely detaching from historical roots.
The competition requires participants to develop a concept based on a specific location of their choice, which will serve as the contextual foundation for their design. Entries may cover architecture, urban planning, interior design, or landscape architecture. After defining the project's context, participants must present their concept through images, analysis, section drawings, plans, 3D models, or visual perspectives in any format that effectively communicates their design's response to "Future Nostalgia in Architecture" within current and future environments, using Thailand as a case study.
Mr. Asae Sukhyanga further stated that the selection process will be carried out by a panel of five esteemed architects including Mr. Jenchieh Hung, Miss Kulthida Songkittipakdee, Mr. Christo Meyer, Mr. Adul Kaewdee, and Mr. Kulapat Yantrasast. The judging criteria are based on three key aspects.
The competition is open in two categories including students and the general public including architects, urban planners, designers, artists, and analysts. Submissions can be made individually or as a team, with no restrictions on age, gender, or nationality. There is also no limit on the number of entries per participant. However, all entries must be original, unpublished, and must not have been previously exhibited or constructed as a completed project.
Furthermore, participants must have full legal rights and copyrights over their submitted work. If any part of the entry contains materials that do not belong to the participant, the submission will be disqualified. In cases of copyright infringement, the awarded prize will be revoked. Interested applicants can register and submit their entries online free of charge. The submission deadline is April 9, 2025. The first round selection will take place on April 18, 2025, and the chosen projects will be exhibited at Architect '25 on April 22, 2025. The final award announcements and prize presentation will be held on May 3, 2025, just before the closing of the event. Contestants can register and follow updates at www.asacompetition.com.
For the general public category, the first prize winner will receive THB 100,000, the second prize winner THB 50,000, and the third prize winner THB 30,000. Additionally, three honorable mention winners will receive certificates. For the student category, the first prize winner will receive THB 50,000, the second prize winner THB 30,000, and the third prize winner THB 20,000, with three honorable mention winners receiving certificates. This is a great opportunity for designers to showcase their creativity and present their work on an international platform. Architect '25 has consistently attracted over 300,000 visitors from Thailand and abroad, and this year's event is expected to draw an even larger audience.
