Professional Perspectives on Geotechnical Engineering

          Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering hosted the seminar, “Professional Perspectives on Geotechnical Engineering” to share their knowledge and experience.
          On 5 September 2014, Mr. Issarin Patramai, Executive Director of TEAM GROUP, presided the opening of the seminar on “Professional Perspectives on Geotechnical Engineering”, which was organized by the Geotechnical & Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd. or GFE (a member of TEAM GROUP) at the Ballroom 1, The Emerald Hotel Bangkok. The seminar is part of TEAM GROUP’s CSR scheme which aimed to share knowledge and work experience in geology, geotechnical engineering and related fields with younger geologists and geotechical engineers, who enjoyed an opportunity to learn about working in these fields, obstacles and challenges, solutions and progress in the career path.
          “Due to Thailand’s social and economic growth, infrastructure development has been continuously enhanced and the roles of geotechnical engineering have been prioritized in a braod range of projects such as the development of mass transit system networks, construction of drainage tunnels and construction of dams and diversion tunnels,” said Mr. Issarin in his opening speech.
          The morning session of the event featured a special lecture on “Geotechnical Engineering and Work Experience in Mega Projects” by Dr. Aphichat Sramoon, Chairman of the Executive Board of GFE; and the afternoon session featured a workshop on geological and geotechnical engineering work, in which 12 specialists gave an honor to share their knowledge and experience with the audience. These 12 specialists were Dr.Rottana Ladachart, Dr. Pastsakorn Kitiyodom, Mr. Amnarj Yanuviriyakul, Mr. Wiset Jangjit, Dr. Sahaphol Timpong, Dr. Auttakit Asanprakit, Dr. Aphichat Sramoon, Dr. Teerawut Juinarongrit, Mr. Yuth Chansing, Mr. Kraipob Punprom, and Mr.Suwat Sriwong.
          The topics of the seminar included geology in the engineering work, geological and geotechnical survey for mega projects, foundation and deep excavation for the mass transit systems, design of flood prevention systems, design of slope excavation, design and construction of huge dams, tunnels and development of underground space in the urban areas, design and construction of large tunnels in rocks, geotechnical engineering for transportation projects, improvement of rock strata for foundation, application of the FEM in geotechnical engineering work, geotechnical instrumentation for safety in large construction projects, respectively.
