Thai Students to Compete in the 2013 FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge Asia Pacific Final in Hong Kong Three Student Teams to Demonstrate Entrepreneurial Skills, Showcase Creative Business Ideas at Regional Finals Six Thai students paired into three teams, representing Triam Udom Suksa School, Samsenwittayalai School, and Ekamai International School will compete for the top prize at the 2013 FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (FedEx/JA ITC) AsiaPacific Final in Hong Kong, August 19-21. They will showcase their entrepreneurial skills and savvy before a judging panel of business experts and Asia Pacific students. The six students were selected to represent Thailand after competing in the local FedEx/JA ITCheld in Bangkok in June. As part of the FedEx /JA ITC contest, the students were asked to develop an innovative product (and marketing plan) to sell overseas – the winning ideas included smokeless incense (to improve fire safety), a power bank charger that converts heat from hot drinks, or condensation from cold beverages to generate energy and ecofriendly chopstics made from water hyacinth plants (to help reduce deforestation). One of the students, Chidchanog Chidchanognarth from Triam Udom Suksa School said he is excited and delighted to represent Thailand at the regional final. “We plan to work even harder at the final in Hong Kong. We will listen carefully to the judges and apply their advice, and insight, to try to make our product even better,” said Chidchanognarth. In addition to the Thai teams, the regional title will be contested by student teams from eight other Asia Pacific countries, including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore andVietnam. This is the fifth year that FedEx Express has partnered with Junior Achievement to organize the ITC in Thailand. In the past four years, Thai students have featured prominently in the competition, winning the regional finals in 2010 and 2011. The ITCis designed to help students fromAsia Pacific learn about entrepreneurship and provide them with an opportunity to set up a mock business and develop a business plan to enter an overseas market. The local ITC winning teams are chosen for their understanding and application of research, creative ideas, planning and entrepreneurialstrategies whenentering new markets. “Because Thailand’s future growth is expected to be increasingly driven by closer economic ties with neighboring ASEAN countries, the FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge has never been more topical or relevant,” said David Carden, managing director, FedEx Express Thailand and Indochina. “Through ITC, Thailand’s next generation of business leaders can learn the vital skills from FedEx experts that they can use throughout their future career. And through the realistic business simulation competition, students can apply new skills such as research, budgeting andmarketingto develop their own entrepreneurial ideas and strategies.” “Thanks to FedEx support of the program and the contribution of FedEx volunteers as advisers, more than 600 Thai students have enjoyed the opportunity to learn about business and trade in a very unique, hands-on way,” added M.L. Pariyada Diskul, executive director of Junior Achievement Thailand.“We’re delighted that a few of our teams have gone onto achieve success at the regional finals, and we wish this year’s representatives the best of luck.” Results Winning School Project Title TriamUdomSuksaSchool Paga Incense Samsenwittayalai School Hot ‘n’Cold Power Bank Ekamai International School “Ai Shu” Chopsticks: The Ultimate Water Hyacinth Solution For further information please contact: Benjarat Limpasurat or Gatenipa Chantem of Grayling (Thailand) Tel:+66 2635 7151, Fax: +66 2635 7155 Emails: [email protected] or [email protected] [1]Subject to relevant terms and conditions -NT- Click for photo release at www.thaipr.net
