Thailand 2013 is set to take place in Pakchong, Nakorn Ratchasima on 2nd February with a record line-up of trail runners and ultra runners from Thailand and around the world. Over 1,000 runners of 30 nationalities are competing with almost 100 taking part in the ultimate challenge – the 100km solo run. Finishers of the famous 243km Marathon de Sables across the Sahara dessert, and the 240km Australia C2K (Sea to Summit), as well as many other international ultra running events, will be competing in the largest and strongest line-up yet at The North Face 100? Thailand, which is now a qualifying race for the world renown The North Face? Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc? in France. 2012 Men's 100km winner, Solchai Choosankul of Thailand, and top Thai Women's finisher (and second woman overall) Poonsup Thammapiti, are both returning to defend their titles. “It's great to see so many people signed up to compete this year. This is only the second year of The North Face 100? Thailand and the number and quality of the competitors is top class,” said Chaiyut Srivikorn, President of Thai Outdoor Sport Co. Ltd., exclusive distributor of The North Face? in Thailand. The number and quality of Thai participants is also very encouraging. “Trail running is a relatively new sport in Thailand. It requires more than just running ability to run along a trail route on different surfaces and in changing environments. We are very excited to see that more than half the participants taking part this year are Thai, and that 30 Thais are competing in the gruelling 100km distance,” added Khun Chaiyut. The North Face? Thailand has appointed Mr. Saman Kunan as the 2013 event ambassador, a well-known and experienced Thai trail runner and adventure race athlete. Khun Saman will race over the 50km distance. Dubbed the 'Ultra Marathon', The North Face 100? Thailand includes a number of distances: 100km Solo, 100km Duo, 50km Solo, 25km Run, 10km Run, with age and sex categories, and offers a unique and adventurous trail running experience. The route starts in Amphoe Pakchong, with the start/ finish at Villa Paradis Hotel, and goes through fruit plantations and past Thai temples in the surrounds of Khao Yai National Park. For the ultra distances, runners will face the highest peak of 560m at the 11km mark, with three more inclines to peaks over 500m along the route, combining nature and sport in Thailand's Ultimate Trail Running Challenge. Under the concept of “Take Only Memories: Leave Only Footprints”, The North Face 100? Thailand will be supporting the Thai Elephants Research and Conservation Fund (TERCF). Khao Yai National Park is home to the largest population of wild Thai elephants and a percentage of all entry fees from The North Face 100? Thailand 2013 will be donated to the TERCF to support their worthwhile work. The North Face 100?
