General Motors (Thailand) Limited celebrated the opening ceremony of a new press line at Rayong plant, which will strengthen its business expansion in 2011. On 16 December 2010, Mr.Martin Apfel, President of General Motors Thailand/Southeast Asia and Mr.Kaher Kazem, Vice President - Manufacturing and Quality Control welcomed Mr.John Buttermore, Vice President - Manufacturing of General Motors International Operations, who presided over the ceremony and took a tour of General Motors, Rayong plant.
A new press line for GM Thailand has been installed to support its production, especially for a new, world-class truck, which is going to be first produced and launched by GM Thailand for the world market. The new generation truck will be GM’s flagship model in the truck segment.
With a total investment of THB 327 million (US $10.9 million), the new press line includes four press machines, six robots (imported specially from Japan) and two conveyors, which operate at 7.7SPM (panels-per-minute) and will produce 2,300,000 panels per year. “This is only one milestone of many more to come. GM is building momentum, with many great new products, to delight our customers and give the best ownership experience”, Mr.Kazem said.
With GM global design “DNA”, advanced technology features that will ensure great performance and durability, and most of all great fuel economy and efficiency, GM is confident that the new press line will build its best-in-class products and pave the way for General Motors to be the leader in the vehicle construction business.
