Innovative applications demonstrated at seminars co-hosted by Polycom and Transition Systems
Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the global leader in telepresence, video and voice communications solutions, today previewed a number of innovative collaboration applications to support the continued growth of the Thai manufacturing industry. According to forecasts by the Office of Industrial Economics, Thailand’s Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) is set to rise by approximately eight per cent this year. However, in an increasingly competitive global environment, local manufacturers will need to consistently realise greater operational efficiencies and enhance the speed and quality of decision-making to sustain strong growth. In a series of seminars co-hosted by Transition Systems Asia, Polycom has demonstrated how high definition virtual collaboration solutions are being utilised to maintain aligned communication amongst dispersed development and manufacturing teams – ensuring timeliness and consistent quality standards.
Globalisation is driving tremendous opportunities for the Thai manufacturing sector, with unprecedented access to customers and supply chain partners around the world. Worldwide access to suppliers and vendors has resulted not only in a broad choice of component options, but in price efficiencies. It has also made possible “follow-the-sun” processes, whereby leading companies maintain continuous development around the clock in different geographical locations – dramatically improving time-to-manufacture cycles. However, these processes are subject to distance and cultural barriers that can often lead to misunderstandings, poor coordination and timing delays. Equally, maintaining the quality and consistency of products across a geographically dispersed supply chain is a business complexity for Thai manufacturers in a globalised world.
However, by using voice, video and telepresence solutions to promote effective collaboration, high-performance manufacturing organisations are becoming more efficient in their operations and achieving greater success.
“Manufacturing companies that can manage global operations efficiently are poised to take advantage of a worldwide resource and supplier base. However, managing globally dispersed work teams is a challenge,” said Randel Maestre, Director, Enterprise Solutions at Polycom. “In today’s real-time world, manufacturers must constantly improve time-to-manufacture cycles without compromising the quality of their products. The world’s leading manufacturers recognise that maintaining effective collaboration amongst internal and external teams is critical to achieving these fundamentals.”
Moreover, companies in all industries, not just manufacturing, are becoming more environmentally conscious. Globally, the need to reduce carbon emissions is rapidly becoming a key corporate initiative. With a variety of transportation options available – on the ground, in the air, over water – it is easy to move people and products around the world; but this has environmental impacts. By providing a viable alternative to business travel, HD collaboration solutions help organisations to be more globally sustainable, but also to save time and money.
Polycom is the global leader in telepresence, video and voice communications solutions, and the only vendor capable of delivering HD voice, video and content-sharing for a truly life-like meeting experience over distance. Manufacturing customers around the world are utilising Polycom collaboration solutions to support a host of applications including quality assurance, offshoring, supply management and customer service.
“Demand for high-quality collaboration systems is rising amongst local manufacturers as they continue to expand within Thailand and across the world,” commented Mr. Somchai Hiranyakorn, Managing Director at Transition Systems & Networks (Thailand) Co., Ltd. “With the advent of high definition collaboration solutions, which create a “just-like-being-there” meeting experience over distance, Thai manufacturers are realising tangible efficiency, productivity and environmental benefits that help them compete more effectively in the global economy.”
