EMIRATES SKYCARGO TO SERVE THAI CUSTOMERS WITH LARGER GLOBAL NETWORK AND CAPACITY IN 2008

Emirates SkyCargo, the award-winning freight division of Emirates Airline has announced that it will launch services to more international gateways and introduce additional capacity to existing points in 2008 in response to the growing demand for exports from Thailand. Following the successful launch of services to Cape Town in March, Emirates SkyCargo will begin services to both Guangzhou in China, and Calicut in India on July 1, Los Angeles on September 1, San Francisco on October 26 and Durban in South Africa on December 1 of this year. The ongoing global route expansion will open up additional opportunities for Thai companies and is expected to boost export volumes significantly. The new routes also afford importers with new avenues for sourcing overseas goods. Additionally, Emirates SkyCargo has also increased its capacity on existing routes in response to the higher export demand. On the daily Bangkok – Dubai route, operated with a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, an additional capacity of 30 tonnes per week has been introduced on the Bangkok-Dubai sector. Furthermore, from July 1st, Emirates SkyCargo will upgrade its operation to provide daily direct services from Thailand to both Milan and Rome, via Dubai. This enables more cargo space in the belly-hold to be dedicated for consignments to either Milan or Rome and eliminates the need to share precious cargo space with other destinations. The capacity expansion will boost exports from Thailand to the United Arab Emirates and Italy. In 2007 the cargo movement from Thailand to the United Arab Emirates was 8,860,732 kilograms, registering an impressive growth of 36 per cent from the 6,496,120 kilograms carried in the previous year. Meanwhile cargo shipments from Thailand to Italy in 2007 totaled 6,659,191 kilograms, a 6 per cent increase from the previous year, according to the Bangkok Airport Air Cargo Statistics. Key products exported from Thailand include electronic parts, computer parts, auto parts, fresh foods, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and garments while major products imported to Thailand include spare auto parts, electronic parts, raw materials, textiles, synthetic stones, personal effects and seafood. Recently, Emirates SkyCargo was voted ‘Best Middle East Cargo Airline’ for the 20th consecutive year by trade magazine Air Cargo News. From Air Cargo World Survey: Air Cargo Excellence, Emirates SkyCargo has just been ranked in the top three position of the 50 top airline cargo in the world with the highest value score for customers and remarkable points for information technology and performance. In the financial year 2007-08, Emirates SkyCargo globally carried 1.3 million tonnes of cargo, an improvement of 10.9 per cent over the previous year’s 1.2 million tonnes; and recorded a revenue increase of 20 per cent to approximately 57,000,000,000 Baht ($1.8 billion), up from around 48,000,000,000 Baht ($1.5 billion) in 2006-07. Currently, Emirates SkyCargo serves a global route network that spans 99 destinations in 62 countries. Emirates SkyCargo’s freighter fleet serves 10 cargo-only destinations such as Lilongwe (Malawi), Gothenburg, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Taipei , Djibouti, Toledo, Hahn, Zaragoza and Eldoret. Emirates' 116-strong fleet includes 106 wide-bodied passenger jets and 10 freighters (3 Airbus 310-300Fs, 4 Boeing 747-400Fs, 3 Boeing 747-400ERFs). From Thailand, Emirates SkyCargo operates 19 flights per week to Dubai, seven flights per week to Hong Kong and seven flights per week to Sydney and Auckland using its Boeing 777-300ERs and 777-300s, which have a cargo capacity ranging from 16.5 to 23 tonnes.
