66% say remote information access is critical part of business continuity
In a recent poll conducted by Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, 63 percent of 60 respondents (see table 1), made up of CIOs, IT managers and professionals, in Thailand have a ready business recovery plan to handle a business disruption.
Although 66 percent of them (see table 2) need to provide their employees with remote access to business-critical information, only 37 percent (see table 3) have the ready infrastructure to do so. The survey also shows that 50% (see table 4) are concerned that the bird flu pandemic will affect their business operations.
The respondents represent a variety of industries including manufacturing, financial services, telecommunication, healthcare, pharmaceutical, government, transportation, retail, business consulting, engineering and construction.
What was traditionally perceived to be an enterprise-level issue, business continuity is now widely acknowledged to be critical to companies of all sizes. A business continuity plan is essentially a safety net for businesses, it will help minimize losses and the impact on employee productivity, as well as prevent the erosion of customer confidence.
“The looming threat of business disruptions – be it the bird flu pandemic, civil unrest, or terrorist attacks – has heightened awareness of the need for business continuity,” said Yaj Malik, Area Vice President, ASEAN, Citrix Systems. “Companies these days cannot be complacent and react only when their businesses are affected. By having on hand a business continuity plan, businesses can continue to function even when a disaster strikes.”
At the core of business continuity is the matter of ensuring that information is available for access all the time, and from anywhere. This means that businesses that rely on location-specific access to corporate information can be at a severe disadvantage when a problem occurs – facing not only productivity losses but also the cost of re-establishing desktops elsewhere.
“After all, it’s pointless having data, applications and computers in the office when one cannot get to them during a health crisis for example. With Citrix access infrastructure solutions, if you can’t go to your office, your office can come to you,” added Yaj.
Citrix Systems provides access infrastructure solutions, a pre-emptive measure which ensures that companies are adequately prepared for any business disruptions. The solution not only protects critical information and applications, it also provides secure Web access to essential business resources and allowing users to continue working from anywhere, with any enabled device over any connection, while enjoying the same consistent user experience.
Application processing, administration and support are centralized on a server where users view and work with the interface as if the application is running locally. With 100 per cent of processing performed on the server, this architecture permits applications to be accessed on any enabled device, and also minimizes the amount of data traveling across the network. With centralized management, administrators can also quickly re-route users to another server, bringing them back online with minimal downtime.
Additionally, access infrastructure solutions can be used in a business’ daily environment for remote application access and workforce mobility, providing cost-effective centralized management of the application environment, lowering support costs, and accelerating application deployment. The organization also gains more mileage out of its existing hardware and network infrastructure.
