Bangkok--Feb 7--Seagate Technology

Thai robot to battle in Japan in the middle of this year Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited, Thai Robotics Society and Mahidol University Faculty of Engineering today announced the top three teams for the final round of Robocup Thailand Championship 2005. For the winning team, the judging committee awarded the cash prize of 100,000 baht to Plasma-Z from Chulalongkorn University. The Plasma-Z team will also represent Thailand at the World Robocup 2005 held in Osaka, Japan in the middle of this year. Other prizes were also awarded. The second-place team, was ITE-GOLD from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The team received a cash prize of 50,000 baht. The third-place team, which won the best technique award, was ROBUST from Sripatum University. The team received a cash prize of 30,000 baht. Saksit Dridech, Ph.D., deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology said, “The 2005 Robocup Thailand Championship plays major role in supporting the country’s development in technology. This competition is also another arena for Thai robotic developers to learn and work with sophisticated technology in a positive and competitive environment. Although Thai teams have learned and developed this technology for just a few years, they have been able to win several prizes in international competitions. We expect that today’s winning team will also help to acquire good reputation and improve the country’s standing at the World Robocup 2005 which will be held in Osaka, Japan this year.” Associate Professor Dr. Manukid Parnichkun, president of the Thai Robotics Society, said, “We think that the Robocup Thailand Championship 2005 will be another step for Thai students to improve their knowledge and capabilities in robotic technology and widen their experiences in an international arena. During the past few years, Thai teams have participated in certain international contests such as the RoboFesta 2001 held in Japan, World Robocup 2003 in Italy and World Robocup 2004 in Portugal. The opportunity of this year’s winning team to take part in the World Robocup 2005 competition in Osaka, Japan will obviously help to demonstrate their aptitude and widen their vision on science and technology.” Supar Phokachaipat, Sr. Director of Corporate Communication, Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited said, “This is the third consecutive year of the Robocup Thailand Championship. The past two years, the winning teams showed the benefit of the experience they gained from the contest. This is a breakthrough strategy for the development of Thai students.” This year, Seagate takes great pride in cooperating with the Thai Robotics Society and Mahidol University Faculty of Engineering in hosting Robocup Thailand Championship 2005. This nationwide event fits with Seagate’s local community development policy to support science and technology development projects for Thai students.” Thai Robotics Society (TRS) was established in 2000 by groups of robotic experts, researchers, and industrial people, involved in robotic education and applications.
