Revenue from Asian market up 28%
while revenue from Thailand rose 23 %
Air France recently announced that group operating revenues for its fiscal year ended March 2001
hiked up by 19 percent to 12.28 billion euros (approx. 471.06 billion baht). Operating income is up 23.4 percent
to 443 million euros (approx.16,993.48 million Baht) despite a 60 percent rise in fuel costs of 609 million
euros (approx. 23,361.24 million Baht). Consolidated net profit yielded a 19 percent increase to 421 million euros
(approx. 16,149.56 million baht).
Despite the adverse affect of the very steep 60 percent increase in fuel prices and the cost of
integrating regional carriers, these results confirm Air France’s strong group sales performance.
Air France in Asia Pacific contributed to overall group performance.
Revenues from Asian market increased 28 percent. Asian routes generated 23.4 percent higher revenue
than last year. Load factor added 1.4 points reached 82.3 percent. While Air France increased its capacity in
Asia Pacific by 4.3 percent (Available Seat-Kilometres), its traffic grew by 6 per cent (Revenue Passenger-Kilometres).
In Thailand, passenger revenue rose 23 percent to 652.6 million baht, while cargo revenue reached 860 million baht.
Thailand traffic grew by 21 percent to 50,276 passengers, representing an 85 percent load factor.
Cargo traffic to and from Thailand was up one percent, exceeding 8,395 tonnes.
"Air France in Asia Pacific has again set the record for the growth last fiscal year," said Marie-Joseph
Mal้, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Air France Asia Pacific. "Now that the economy is
recovering, we are able to gear up growth in revenue generated out of Asian market. Our yield was higher as well.
These results mean we are in very good shape, and I believe this trend will continue."
"All of our Asian routes enjoyed strong performance and it's not surprising that popular destinations
such as Thailand had one of the highest growth rates," added Mr. Mal้.
"For Japan, despite a soft economic situation, Air France had very good results from the route with an increase in
market share, thanks to the popularity of France over other European destinations. The leading markets for growth, with
revenue increases of almost 40%, were Korea and India, where we have consistently added capacity over the past few
years," said Mr. Mal้.
For the fiscal year 2001/2002, Air France forecasts a 9.5 percent increase in terms of group capacity.
As the current economic climate has become more stable in Air France markets, the company aims to achieve results
for the current financial year on par with those of the previous year.
