Sun Microsystems, Inc. recently announced that LocalEyes, a huge new Web site with more than one million pages, will be hosted exclusively on Sun Ultra Enterprise servers. LocalEyes (www.localeyes.com) has more than 2,000 virtual business communities in a new Web service that will make it easy for consumers to quickly find local business information anywhere in the United States.
Based on proprietary GeoTopic technology, LocalEyes has developped a complex infrastructure that integrates local Web search, Yellow Page directories, mapping and topical content. Users locate information by submitting queries, browsing a topical directory and navigating maps.
"LocalEyes is one of the largest, most comprehensive sites on the Internet, and we looked at different systems to host it," said Mike Simon, president of LocalEyes.
