The British Council is delighted to have welcomed over 200 enthusiastic Thai youths to the British Council English Competition 2013 and has introduced the winners who have received the trophies from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn along with British Council certificates and scholarships.
Mr. Chris Gibson, Director of British Council Thailand, said the British Council had organised its first ever national English competition, the British Council English Competition 2013, to encourage Thai students in Prathom and Mattayom levels countrywide to show their English skills and knowledge of the United Kingdom while vying for a trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
“As an expert institution offering high-quality English courses that taught by native English-speaking teachers from the UK, the British Council hopes to highlight the importance of the English language in today’s well-connected world among the Thai youths. Thanks to the forming of the ASEAN Economic Community, or AEC, in 2015 in particular, English will play an increasingly important role in everyone’s education and professional life. Thai youths are among the group of people who need to start adjusting themselves to learn how to communicate fluently and effectively in English today,” said Mr. Chris Gibson.
The British Council English Competition 2013 was introduced last June with a road show to different schools to offer Thai students the opportunities to learn with qualified native English-speaking teachers in a fun environment where they were fully engaged and would be able to apply the lessons to real life. The project was well-received by the participating schools, which expressed their wishes to welcome more activities like this in the future.
The final round of the competition was organised at Terminal 21 and was judged by qualified experts from the British Council and celebrities such as Louis Scott as guest judges.
