New HP StoreEver Storage portfolio leverages LTO-6 for improved capacity, speed and scalability at a lower cost per GB
HP today introduced the new HP StoreEver Storage tape portfolio featuring sixth-generation Linear Tape-open (LTO-6) technology that delivers twice the capacity and 44 percent faster performance than LTO-5 in the same footprint.(1)
HP StoreEver Storage, the industry’s broadest tape storage portfolio, integrates HP’s market-leading tape products and technologies(2) with HP Converged Storage, HP Data Protector and leading third-party backup software. This seamless integration, coupled with new LTO-6 capabilities, enables HP StoreEver Storage to deliver reliable long-term data protection and retention in a format that meets the needs of nearly any environment.
Enterprises today are finding that tape storage continues to provide a range of important benefits for critical business requirements including backup, disaster recovery and compliance. Further, its scalability, speed, capacity and low cost structure make it an ideal solution for companies taking on today’s Big Data challenges.
The HP StoreEver Storage portfolio with LTO-6 technology offers enterprise customers important benefits that directly lead to competitive business advantage including:
Very high capacity in a small physical space with up to 6.25 TB on a single LTO-6 tape cartridge (compressed 2.5:1), which is double the capacity of the LTO-5 in the same space
Fast compressed speeds of up to 400 MB/second or 1.4 TB/hour
Scalability in terms of both storage capacity and backup performance using 2.5:1 compression:
HP StoreEver Single Tape Drive up to 6.25 TB
HP StoreEver LTO-6 Tape Autoloader up to 50 TB
HP StoreEver Mid-Range Tape Library up to 600 TB
HP StoreEver Enterprise Tape Library up to 44 PB
Low cost per GB with LTO-6 customers only expected to pay about 2.5 cents (less than 1 Baht) per GB
Green storage because LTO is an off-line storage medium it does not need to be constantly powered on, which helps lower the cost per GB and the total cost of ownership
Multi-decade durability because tape continues to be a more stable magnetic recording medium than disks, and LTO-6 cartridges offer a shelf life of up to 30 years, which is very important when it comes to long-term data retention
