Thais studying in the UK entitled to a baggage allowance of 46 kg
Due to popular demand, British Airways is extending its special baggage allowance offer for Thai students studying in the United Kingdom (UK).
Under this offer, students who purchase a special British Airways student fare to the UK are entitled to check-in an additional bag (maximum of 23 kg) free of charge. This makes each customer’s free baggage allowance 46 kg in total.
Launched two years ago, the promotion is again expected to be well received because, whether the visit was for study, leisure, or business, the UK was overwhelmingly, the most popular long-haul destination for Thai travellers in 2012.
Based on data compiled by Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, 144,499 Thais visited the UK in 2012, representing an increase of 4.6 per cent from the previous year. The second most popular long-haul destination was Australia, attracting 117,283 visitors from Thailand.
Commenting on the trend, Sriram Narayan, British Airways country manager, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia said, “2012 was a milestone year for the UK in terms of visitors from Thailand. As well as the increase in volume, most visitors chose to stay an average of 9.8 days”.
“Our research reveals that the current strength of the Thai baht against the British pound has made travel to the UK more attractive for many Thais. In particular, we have seen strong demand from students who wish to study in schools and universities in the UK”.
"The student traveller market is important for British Airways because students often travel with parents and other family members. For example, if a Thai student is visiting the UK for the first time, theirparents and siblings often fly with them to London, or other cities, to help them settle in. Many families also stay on to enjoy some vacation time in the UK."
The student fare, which starts from just THB 25,500, is available for purchase from now until December 31, 2013 (for outbound travel until December 31, 2013). All Thai students with a valid UK student visa can enjoy the special deal.
British Airways also offers a Skyflyer Solo service to assist students (under the age of 18) travelling alone. Designed to provide ‘peace of mind’ to parents and guardians, British Airways flight staff will help students in their pre, during, and on-the-ground travel processes to ensure they have a safe and fun flight.
