On Sunday 11th March, the commemorative day of the 11.3.11 Tohoku Earthquake in Japan, the Japan Foundation, Bangkok, in cooperation with World Film Festival of Bangkok (WFF), Paragon Cineplex and the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, will present one feature film and two documentaries at Paragon Cineplex to commemorate the victims and reinforce the bond between Thailand and Japan.
The first film is “Fukushima Hula Girl”, a documentary featuring girl dancers from Spa Resort Hawaiians in Fukushima; the film documents how they attempted to re-build the resort as part of the first step in the reconstruction of Fukushima. This will be followed by a Special Talk presented by Mr. Seigi Ozeki, a Japanese actor based in Thailand, who comes from Fukushima. Next will be a screening of “Light UpNippon”, which features a young volunteer group that organized a huge firework festival in Tohoku to “light up” Japan. The last film is the feature film “ROCK Wanko no Shima”, which is based on the real story of friendship between a dog, a boy and his family after they were torn apart following the volcanic eruption in Miyakejima.
Japan and Thailand experienced devastating disasters in 2011 and this special film screening is based upon a common desire for recovery and commemoration of the victims, with the shared hope of stronger 'Kizuna'- bonds between the two countries and the international community.
