Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s leading public relations agencies has been selected by General Motors (Thailand) Limited as the agency of record for the next three years, starting in the third quarter of 2010. Weber Shandwick has been supporting GM Thailand’s communications initiatives since 2005. One of the main reasons Weber Shandwick was awarded the contract was due to the agency’s access to a global network and the close cooperation and involvement with Weber Shandwick offices in other markets that also hold GM’s business. This has accorded the sharing of best practices, ideas and cross-market consultations – a criteria that was important to GM due to the global nature of its business.
Ms. Monica A. White, CEO of McCann Worldgroup (Thailand) said, “The trust we have from GM Thailand is significant. It reflects how much we understand GM, the organization, and its brand Chevrolet, as well as the overall needs of its customers. Hence, we are propelled to continue to deliver more groundbreaking PR initiatives.”
“GM has recorded very positive growth not only in Thailand but also in the ASEAN region, and Weber Shandwick is ready to support this growth with effective PR activities,” Ms. White added.
In addition to overall communications activities in Thailand which include product, corporate and internal communications, community outreach and corporate social responsibility programs, Weber Shandwick’s work scope for GM also includes oversights on other markets in the ASEAN region.
Poised for further growth especially with a slew of new products coming online in the near future, GM Thailand views public relations and communications – whether with internal stakeholders or with the media and customers – as one of the cornerstones of its foundation for growth in Thailand and the ASEAN region. Weber Shandwick is tasked to achieve GM’s communications objectives utilizing both traditional and non-traditional tactics, including social media.
