Program Aims to Educate Young People About Entrepreneurship, Teamwork and Global Trade
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, will kick off its second FedEx Express/Junior Achievement Thailand International Trade Challenge 2010 (TITC) from June 19 to August 7, 2010.
TITC is the Thai component of the FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (ITC) that aims to educate and inspire young people in eight Asia-Pacific markets on how entrepreneurship can improve the quality of their lives and the communities they live in.
The program will give secondary school students a better understanding about global business and trade by helping them develop business ideas and inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship.
“FedEx is pleased to have the opportunity to support, educate and develop a new generation of entrepreneurs in Thailand through the International Trade Challenge program. As tomorrow’s leaders, it is important for young people to understand how business and trade works in the global arena so that they can contribute to the country and region’s continued economic growth and success,” said David Carden, managing director, FedEx Express Thailand and Indochina.
Other participating markets in this year's ITC are Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines and Singapore.
ln Thailand, some 120 students from 20 schools will attend an Orientation Day on June 19 at Concordian International School, Bangna Trad Km 7. The deadline for students to submit their international marketing entry strategy for the product and market of their choice is July 15, 2010. By participating in this ITC program, students will not only sharpen their understanding of global business and trade, they are challenged to articulate their thoughts in English as well.
”JA Thailand is thrilled to partner with FedEx Express to bring new and exciting educational opportunities to students in Thailand. This year, enterprising students will once again have the chance to use their intellect and creativity to problem solve in the complex world of international trade,” said Leila Rachele Pittaway, CEO of Junior Achievement Thailand.
Ten teams, comprising two students each, will be shortlisted to participate in the national final of the TITC in August at Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. Three winning teams will then be selected to represent team Thailand at the regional final of the FedEx Express/Junior Achievement ITC on August 23 to 25 in Singapore.
The three winning TITC teams will be presented with Certificates of Merit and trophies. The best team will receive 15,000 baht in cash and prizes, while the second and third place teams will receive 10,000 baht and 7,500 respectively.
"Besides enhancing their knowledge, the program will benefit students through the opportunity to build their confidence and present their ideas as entrepreneurs to a panel of international judges," added Carden.
