Everland Theme Park deploys 3Com’s fault-tolerant switches to guarantee delivery of high-quality digital audio at its popular attractions
3Com Corporation, a leading provider of secure converged networking (SCN) solutions for enterprises of all sizes, today announced that it has completed the upgrade of Samsung Everland’s audio transmission network, which guarantees the delivery of high-quality digital sound within the grounds of Korea’s biggest theme park, including the popular Caribbean Bay waterpark.
3Com Korea supplied Everland with its workgroup switches, a range of fault tolerant switches, to enhance the performance of Cobranet, an audio networking system standard that the park leveraged to support real-time, high-quality digital audio transmission via standard Ethernet and media.
Workgroup switches, comprising 3Com Switch 5500 and Switch 5500G, Switch 4500 and Switch 4500G, and Switch 4200G units, are optimized for voice/data integration with advanced traffic prioritization capability to eliminate audio transmission delays and prevent audio quality deterioration. 3Com 5500 and 4500 switches, in particular, support high-end functions such as voice VLAN settings for reliable high-quality digital audio transmissions from sound equipment.
“We decided to undertake a network upgrade when we detected audio signal deterioration from our CobraNet-based system,” said Byeon Yong-Su, senior manager, Park Planning Team, Samsung Everland. “We considered various vendors and chose 3Com products for their seamless CobraNet support allowing us to delivery high-quality sound, without any failures over the past six months. 3Com’s expert after-sales technical assistance also met our stringent product support requirements.”

CobraNet
CobraNet is the standard audio industry network technology. It transmits uncompressed digital audio signals via standard Ethernet hardware and media. The MediaMatrix system, a sound-related solution, has adopted CobraNet and is capable of transmitting a number of digital audio channels via the Ethernet network. In addition, CobraNet takes advantage of the Mware software, a sound-related application, to use multi-channels to send digital audio signals to any location on the network easily.
