Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Porter Airlines of Toronto has placed a firm order for two Q400 airliners. The transaction involves the conversion of two of ten options which were taken by Porter when the airline placed a firm order for ten Q400 airliners in 2006.
Based on the list price for the Q400 aircraft, the value of the contract is approximately $52 million US.
Porter has now placed firm orders for a total of 14 Q400 airliners, which includes its original order announced in February 2006, a subsequent transaction in March this year, and the order announced today.
Porter Airlines originally flew two routes from the Toronto City Centre Airport, to Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. It has since added service from Toronto to Quebec City, Quebec; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and New York via Newark Liberty International Airport. The airline also operates seasonal flights to the winter resort of Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
"The performance, operating economics and strong passenger acceptance of Bombardier's Q400 aircraft are exactly what we expected when we first ordered the aircraft in 2006," said Robert Deluce, President and Chief Executive Officer, Porter Airlines. "This aircraft has allowed us to remain firmly on our original business plan."
"Final assembly for the Q400 aircraft is done at Bombardier's Toronto site, so Porter Airlines' operation is an ideal showcase for the airliner," said Gary R. Scott, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "The lower CO2 emissions and quiet operation of the airliner make it ideally suited to the Toronto City Centre Airport and similar downtown airfields such as London City Airport in the United Kingdom. The Q400 aircraft is truly a 21st century turboprop."
Total firms orders for the Q400 aircraft now stand at 308, with 200 delivered as of April 30, 2008.
