Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), was awarded a contract to supply and install 42 Gen2(TM) elevators for 21 apartment buildings in Kuwait City. The contract is Otis' largest Gen2 order to date in Kuwait and one of its largest ever in the Middle East.

More than 2,600 residents are expected to live in the apartment buildings owned by the Ministry of Awkaf, a government agency responsible for the construction and administration of housing projects. Otis currently maintains 60 residential and commercial units for the Ministry and is working on four construction projects with Kuwaiti Managers, the Ministry's construction management team.

Each apartment building will contain two Gen2 elevators, which feature Otis' patented lubrication-free flat-belt technology and energy efficiency twice that of traditional elevators. The 10- to 12-story apartments will be completed by year-end.
