Phyathai Hospitals Implement Oracle Financials to Support Operations Integration of Management Information System Will Lead To Better Margins

Bangkok--May 26--124 Communications Oracle Corporation (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) - the world's largest enterprise software company - today announced that Phyathai Hospitals have gone live on Oracle Financials - a key component of the Oracle E-Business Suite. iOM Thailand Ltd., an Oracle Certified Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, has been instrumental in the implementation of the Oracle solution which is a key component of the IT infrastructure to support operations across the entire Group. Mr. Darryl Maytom, Phyathai Hospitals, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said: "We have long realized the importance of IT in the hospital industry and this implementation will allow operations to be run more smoothly and efficiently. Oracle Financials will enable us to improve service levels and operational efficiencies. When one's service is focused on saving lives, anything that can speed up operations is greatly appreciated by both the hospital and the patient." Natasak Rodjanapiches, Oracle Corporation Thailand managing director, said: "The Oracle E-Business Suite is gradually being accepted across all industries in Thailand including those in the retail, banking, telecommunications, manufacturing, and service industry. This implementation sees the hospital industry realize that it is also a key component in the IT infrastructure to give operational support." Implementation of the Oracle Accounts Payable and Oracle General Ledger modules started recently and have been integrated with the HR Pro 2e components. This went 'live' at all three Phyathai owned hospitals after a month-long parallel run. The Oracle Accounts Receivable and Oracle Fixed Assets applications are currently being implemented. Maytom added: "We had three separate systems previously at the three hospitals, with each using various versions of the same core system. There was no network linking the three hospitals; even the data management processes were different. What we wanted was a coherent, reliable IT framework - a comprehensive and reliable financial system, proven in the marketplace, simple to operate, and able to provide data to all managers such that they're accountable for their results. The Oracle E-Business Suite was the obvious answer." Maytom added that not only did iOM Thailand bring significant value to the project, it also completed all Oracle-related work on time and within budget. "We're only just starting to understand how powerful Oracle Financials is," said Maytom. "We now have a totally integrated management information system that delivers first-class monthly management reports on the state of our finances, business volume, productivity, product indicators, and so on. We then turn the data into balanced scorecards for all managers and each department. One benefit we've derived from this is better margins." Other pluses the Oracle Financials and HR Pro 2e combo has delivered are a clear view of operations across the three hospitals, standardized business processes, better staff attitude, additional revenue opportunities, and cost savings from better utilization of labor and supplies. The meshing of the three systems is also expected to further shorten the time taken from accounts closure to the generation of the management reports to just five working days. Phyathai Hospitals, which spent approximately Bt200 million on the three systems and the hardware to run them, expects to fully recover its investment within two years. "We set out to eliminate inefficiencies in our organization with the help of computerized systems that could deliver information relevant to the business when we wanted it. I've seen too many hospital management teams getting distracted in the large volumes of data that they generate. What we have put in place and continue to deploy gives us relevant information that allows our managers to focus on what's important, and not get distracted by data whose usefulness has passed. I'm delighted that we've achieved what we wanted," finished Maytom.
