Bngkok--Jun 25--Lucent Technologies
A New Web-Based Tool to Boost Employee Productivity and Enhance Customer Relationships In another move to advance unified messaging, Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today introduced a new web-based tool called www.messenger? at the CommunicAsia ’99 trade show in Singapore. The www.messenger allows voice messaging users to manage and prioritize voice, fax and e-mail messages through the Web. "Lucent’s www.messenger is a breakthrough product for companies looking to begin implementing unified messaging capabilities," said John Winchester, president, Business Communications Systems, Asia Pacific & China, Lucent Technologies. "www.messenger is based on industry standards and it does not require any desktop deployment, so companies can implement it very easily. Voice messaging users can quickly access this application over the Web and immediately view all the messages in their mailbox - be it voicemail, e-mail or faxes." Lucent said www.messenger addresses the needs of today's increasingly mobile workforce. A traveling salesperson, for example, could manage all messages from a multimedia computer in a single session -- as opposed to dialing into the corporate intranet to access e-mail, disconnecting and reconnecting to retrieve voice mail and then transferring to an assistant to check for fax messages. www.messenger helps companies improve customer relationships. Because employees have greater access to information, they can respond more quickly and thoroughly to client requests. Lucent defines unified messaging as a set of capabilities rather than a single product. As a key element in the company's overall unified messaging strategy, www.messenger has been engineered to help companies increase employee productivity and deliver better customer service, while reining in costs. www.messenger is accessible via common Web browsers, including Microsoft? Internet Explorer? and Netscape? Navigator?. It can be used in Windows-, Macintosh- and Sun UNIX-based computers, and can be deployed on Lucent's voice messaging servers across a wide range of PBXs. Lucent’s www.messenger will be demonstrated during CommunicAsia’99, June 22-25 in Singapore. Release 1.0 of www.messenger, to be used with the Octel? 200/300 voice messaging servers, is scheduled to be available worldwide this summer. Release 1.1, supporting Lucent's INTUITY? AUDIX? voice messaging servers across all servers, will be available worldwide at the end of this year.
www.messenger features include:
* oice message playback, creation, reply and forward via a telephone or multimedia computer.
* Fax message viewing, printing, and forwarding with voice messages.
* Messages can be addressed by mailbox number, user name or distribution list.
* Administrative functions such as creating greetings, editing distribution lists and changing passwords can be handled through a telephone or multimedia computer.
