THAI and Lufthansa Fly TG261 Boy-Hero to Germany for Treatment

Bangkok--Jan 15--THAI Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is coordinating with its Star Alliance partner Lufthansa German Airlines to provide complementary air transportation to a cancer-stricken seven-year-old Thai boy who was on board flight TG261 which was involved in an accident last month. The young boy will receive treatment for intestinal cancer in Germany. The child, Apichart Petcharat, lost his father in the accident. His mother was seriously injured. Inspite of his own injuries, young Apichart bravely tried to help other hurt passengers out of the accident site. His efforts were reported in the Bangkok Post and subsequently received wide media coverage in Germany. Hence, an organization known as the German Parent Organization of Children with Cancer, has offered to provide charitable medical treatment for Apichart in Germany at the expense of the hospital located near Gummersbach. The organization has sought the help of the two airlines to fly him to Germany. THAI will fly Apichart to Europe, to either Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich, from where Lufthansa will carry the child onward to the final destination where he will receive treatment. The two airlines will also provide transportation for one accompanying doctor and two of the boy's relatives. The young boy is presently undergoing treatment at Queen Sirikit Hospital but is expected to be able to travel while being seated during the period of the next two weeks. THAI's President Mr. Thamnoon Wanglee said, "THAI is more than happy to help in this noble effort and extends its thanks to the German Parent Organization of Children with Cancer as well as to Lufthansa German Airlines, respectively, for their initiative and cooperation. "We are providing similar and consistent levels of assistnace to all bereaved families who were involved in the accident, including those who suffered injuries and their families who were affected by the tragic accident. Many of THAI's staff have volunteered their personal time and energy in the emergency efforts. "THAI will leave no stone unturned and ensures that we will do everything possible to provide solace, comfort and redress to all those who were in any way involved in the accident," Mr Wanglee said. End.
