Lucent Technologies Extends Range, Lowers Cost of Wireless Data Networking Kit

Bangkok--Dec 3--Lucent Technologies Lucent Technologies recently announced the availability of a complete fixed wireless point-to-point data networking solution that establishes a new benchmark for range at the most competitive price. The new WaveLAN?/Point-to-Point kit now enables high-speed wireless bridging between buildings up to 10 kilometers apart approximately | a 50 percent increase from its previous version. Moreover, the price for the enhanced kit has been reduced by 20 percent to US$2,250. The system is a complete all-in-one-box wireless bridge solution and includes a WavePOINT II point-to-point bridge, wireless PC networking card, cable assembly, lightning protector, Yagi antenna and all required software. The WaveLAN/Point-to-Point kit is an economical alternative and less cumbersome solution as compared with cabled links for high-speed data networking between buildings. It eliminates costly and time-consuming cable trenching and installation and reduces the interval for obtaining leased line service. The WaveLAN solution relies on license-free 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum radio technology, so customers do not incur usage charges. The WaveLAN Point-To-Point kit is extremely easy to set up and installation can usually be completed within hours. The bundled WaveMANAGER Software enables IT Managers to remotely monitor and manage the entire link from a central location. This software includes a remote point-to-point diagnostics tool for easy system configuration and site verification. "Ease of use combined with market-leading performance is very important for our customers,” said Attley Ng, managing director for Global Private Systems, Asia Pacific, Lucent Technologies. "Lucent's all-in-one kit makes it simple for us to provide the best wireless data networking systems for our customers. And of course, offering the most competitive price is a major plus." Lucent Technologies is a global leader in wireless LANs, with installations in more than 50 countries. Through its Bell Laboratories R&D facility, Lucent holds a total of 25 patents on high-speed WLAN technology. Lucent Technologies also has a leading role in WLAN standards development through its chairmanships of the IEEE 802.11 and ETSI BRAN (Broadband Radio Access Network) committees. The WaveLAN family of products is sold worldwide through OEMs and through a network of value-added resellers (VARs) and distributors.
