The always highly anticipated Ploenchit Fair will be held on Saturday 26th November 2011, at the Shrewsbury International School, 10 am – 8 pm. Organized annually by the British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN), the fair supports a range of diverse charity projects in all regions of Thailand, promoting self-sufficiency and improving the lives of the needy. Since first being held at the British Embassy in 1956 to support a range of diverse charity projects in all regions of Thailand, the Ploenchit Fair has become one of the biggest and most loved events of the social calendar in Bangkok. Celebrating its 54th year of assisting the needy, the Ploenchit Fair 2011 will feature an enormous array of outdoor attractions and entertainment for a fun-filled day with family and friends. Enjoying shopping and activities, including the Ferris Wheel, Carousel, Go-Karts, Euro Bungy, Giant Wave Slide, Mini Golf and 20 or more stalls with games of skill, along with an array of live entertainment together with over 50 shopping outlets at the Petticoat Lane that has charity stalls selling a vast assortment of treasures ranging from clothes, gifts, and cosmetic products to food stuffs. Various stalls will offer fun and interactive games for everyone, with a chance to win great prizes. Don’t miss spending the whole day at this delightful event to have fun, meet friends and help an excellent cause. Last year’s Ploenchit Fair saw British companies and many others join together in creating a unique atmosphere for all whilst raising funds to help the less fortunate in Thailand, with nearly 14,000 visitors from the Thai and international communities attending the Fair, and some 5 million baht raised for distribution in 2011. This money is used for over 25 charitable projects throughout Thailand. Projects have included agricultural schemes, sanitation and irrigation schemes, education and medical materials, fish and silk work raising projects as well as assistance with HIV and AID’s awareness programmes. HOW TO GET THERE Skytrain to Taksin Station and free shuttle boat service to Shrewsbury School or1922 Charoen Krung Road (exit Chan Road) off the Expressway, limited parking available. WHERE THE MONEY GOES BCTFN has raised over 50 million baht at the Ploenchit Fair since 2000 alone. This has enabled the Committee to support a vast range of diverse charity projects in all regions of Thailand. The fundamental aim of our support is to promote self-sufficiency and to improve the lives of the needy. The Committee never allocates cash, always oversees the projects personally and monitors progress on a regular monthly basis. Projects include agricultural schemes, sanitation and irrigation schemes, educational materials and equipment, medical equipment and training, fish and silk worms raising projects, assistance with HIV and Aids awareness programmes, rice banks, village weaving and vocational skills projects.
