Gossip Gallery @Silom Galleria reveals ‘Un-Conditional Love’
A dual art exhibition by
Pilaiporn Pethrith & Yotaka Ponsak
Celebrating . . . Motherhood
July 23rd until August 31st, 2009.
To celebrate the nation’s mother’s day, Gossip Gallery @Silom Galleria is proud to host a contemporary art exhibition by two Thai female artists, Pilaiporn Pethrith and Yotaka Ponsak entitled ‘Un-Conditional Love’. Their works, which celebrate motherhood, will be on viewed from July 23rd until August 31st, 2009.
In today’s modern society, the term ‘Love’ is often used loosely and recklessly. It is usually used to describe the relationship between two individuals: possibly lovers, sometimes family members, or even comrades in arms.
However, to these two artists, ‘Love’ has a more profound focus. To them, the all important ‘Love’ is the unconditional love between a mother and her child. This maternal love cannot be easily broken. The special power and passion it evokes binds the participants together unconditionally.
Although the two artists may have led different lifestyles and been brought up in different cultures and environments, there is one thing that they both have in common. They’re mothers. They both understand the meaning of motherhood, and the unconditional love a mother has for her child is well illustrated in their works.
Pilai Pethrith, also known as ‘June’, has expressed her unconditional love to her daughter through her 12 pieces of artwork by using ink on paper techniques. She represents the shared happiness of herself and her daughter through the use of red figures. This vibrant color shows they are alive and content in a dark and gloomy world of uncertainty which she portrays through the use of contrasting black and white and middling tones of grey.
Yotaka Ponsak, also known as ‘Yo’, brings a similar theme in this collection; but through the use of a different painting technique. To bring her ideas across, Yo uses oil and acrylic on canvas. ‘Un-Conditional Love’ is a continuation of her last collection which demonstrated her anxiety and desire to escape from all her troubles. In this collection, the artist expresses, in each of her 10 paintings, the contentment she has achieved. The joy she has gained as the mother of a son is communicated through colors and compositions that are cheerful and vibrant but yet delicate.
Khun Siripa Chotchung, the managing director of Gossip Gallery and the curator of this exhibition, stated that ‘I have known these two artists for quite sometime now. They’re like sisters to me. I am thrilled and honored that they have both chosen Gossip Gallery to debut their latest works. I would like to invite everyone to come and see this amazing collection. Their works have truly projected the real instinct of motherhood and the love a mother gives to her child, un-conditionally.’
‘Un-conditional Love’ will be officially opened for public viewing on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., Silom Galleria (BTS: Surasak Station). Fellow artists, private collectors, and members of the general public are invited to join in this celebration of maternal love.
