‘Light reflects images of all living things . . .even in partial darkness or when they are in motion.
These images constantly change with the rhythm of the shadows . . .’
Gossip Gallery is delighted to host ‘Reflection’, the latest contemporary art exhibition by Naret Yamaharn. As the title suggests, the collection’s main inspiration originates from the artist’s visions derived from the shadows an object casts on a surface. The surface could be solid ground or water in a pond. To Naret, the images shift and change shape constantly. Depending on the brightness of the illuminating light, the images can be vivid with color or dull and bland. Change is a given, but the reflections never go away.
‘Reflection’ also incorporates the Lord Buddha’s teaching philosophy. According to the artist, light represents wisdom and good thoughts, while shadow infers ignorance and wicked ideas. A man always possesses both traits; he might be pleasant to look at, yet wicked on the inside. No one is a true saint or completely evil. All humans have both characteristics but the combination in each individual is determined by the actions and thoughts of that individual. Naret also believes that ‘what we do to others is reflected back to us in the way we are treated.’
‘Reflection’ is Naret’s second exhibition at Gossip Gallery. Khun Ticha Chotchung, Managing Director of Gossip Gallery, stated that “we are happy that Gossip Gallery and Khun Naret are able to collaborate once again. When his collection was shown here in 2007, we received enthusiastic reviews from art collectors and the media. I am sure Khun Naret’s ‘Reflection’ will also attract a lot of positive attention from art enthusiasts.’
‘Reflection’ will be on view through May 9th at the Gossip Gallery, 3rd Floor, Silom Galleria (BTS: Surasak Station).
All of Naret’s 19 oil paintings will be available for purchase.
