FORD SALES INCREASE 10 PERCENT YEAR-ON-YEAR IN THE FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2001

Bangkok--Oct 29--AutoAlliance Thailand Ford Sales and Service (Thailand) Co., Ltd., announced that it sales in first three quarters of 2001 reach 13,034 units, up 10 percent compared to Ford’s sales during the same period last year. The Ford Ranger’s share of the pickup truck segment reached 11 percent. “Due to the flood situation and other factors both inside and outside Thailand, the Thai auto market has been a bit inconsistent from July to September,” said Mr. Michael J. Pease, executive director of Ford Sales and Service (Thailand) Co. “But if we look at the whole picture, sales in the Thai auto market for the first three quarters have grown 13-percent compared to the same period last year.” In the first nine months this year Ford’ sales reached 13,034 vehicles, an increase of 10 percent compared to 11,860 units from the same period last year. Ford’s share of the entire Thai market reached 6.2 percent. In the one-ton pickup truck segment for the first three-quarters, Ford’s market share has reached 12,563 units, or 11.2 percent of the segment. This sales figure represents an increase of 13 percent compared with the same period last year. In September, Ford Ranger sales reached 1,164 vehicles, giving Ford a 10.4 percent share of the pickup segment during the month. Sales of the Ford Laser reached 37 units in September, pushing Ford’s total sales during the month to 1,201 vehicles. “Ford is committed to being the leader in building the safest pickup trucks in Thailand, and that’s why we recently added the “immobilizer” security system to our Rangers. Combined with the Ranger’s strong-body, anti-lock braking system, and air bags, we continue to provide customers with the pickup trucks that meet the world standard for safety,” said Mr. Pease. Total vehicle sales in Thailand in September 2001 rose year-on-year by 16% to 22,381 units, compared to 19,267 unit sold in 2000. Domestic sales year-on-year during the first nine months this year rose 13.3 percent to 209,060 compared to 184,439 vehicles sold in 2000 End -SS-
