Shin Satellite nominated for Best Corporate Teleport Operator of the Year Award

The finalists included US and UK teleports. Shin Satellite Plc (SATTEL) announced today its Thaicom Teleport and DTH Center has been selected as one of the three finalists for the “2006 Corporate Teleport Operator of the Year Award” by the World Teleport Association (WTA). The final recipient of the Award was announced at the annual Teleport Awards for Excellence Luncheon on February 7 (Local time) at the Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C., U.S.A. The 2006 WTA’s awards included four categories: Independent Teleport Operator of the Year, Corporate Teleport Operator of the Year, Teleport Executive of the Year, and Teleport Technology of the Year. Shin Satellite, Thaicom Teleport & DTH Center were among Echostar Satellite of U.S.A., and Schlumberger GSC of the U.K. nominated in the same category. The WTA award for “Corporate Teleport Operator” is new awards category for 2006 honoring to exceptional teleport operations that are units of a larger company, which is primarily in other line of business, from broadcasting to information technology, satellite fleet operation to switch voice. Thaicom Teleport and DTH Center located in Pathumthani Province of Thailand, has shown continuous development using advanced equipment and technology for better quality of broadcasting services. Thaicom Teleport and DTH Center was built in 1997 after the launch of Thaicom 3 satellite. Using this Teleport, Shin Satellite pioneered the first Direct-to-Home (DTH) platform in the region, and the first in the world to deploy the MPEG-2/ DVB standard for digital compression. Thaicom Teleport services include video, voice and data transmission and all kinds of broadcasting services. Currently, Shin Satellite has more than 100 television and radio channels regionally on its three Thaicom satellites. In addition, more than 20 television channels from South Asia use the broadcasting services and operations at the Thaicom Teleport & DTH Center.
