Leading Analyst Firm Places WatchGuard First in Units Sold in Mid-range Pricebands for UTM Appliances
WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WGRD), a leading provider of network security solutions, today announced that leading analyst firm IDC has reported WatchGuard as the unit leader in Q2 2005 Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances sold in the mid-range pricebands of $1,000 - $2,999 and $3,000 - $5,999. These priceband categories are based on actual sales prices as opposed to list prices. WatchGuard overtook SonicWALL and Fortinet which held these positions in Q1 2005.
IDC classifies UTM security appliances as products that include multiple security features integrated into one box. These appliances must be able to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway anti-virus.
"This IDC report clearly shows WatchGuard's strength in terms of actual UTM units sold in these mid-range pricebands," said John Stuckey, WatchGuard vice president of marketing. "We continue to build on our UTM capabilities by also providing the content filtering and spyware prevention required to diligently protect customer networks from today's threats."
WatchGuard has a comprehensive product line to keep business networks of all sizes safe. The Firebox X Core is WatchGuard's flagship line of UTM appliances, providing zero-day protection by inspecting traffic flowing into networks at multiple layers, proactively blocking viruses, worms, spyware, trojans, and blended threats without relying on signatures. Firebox X Peak extends Unified Threat Management protection to more advanced networks, providing up to 1 Gbps firewall throughput.
