More granular management capabilities enable greater control and increased productivity without compromising security
WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WGRD), a leading provider of network security solutions, today introduced new enhancements to its endpoint security appliance, the Firebox X Edge, that simplify administration, provide greater user control and add functionality. Specifically, WatchGuard has introduced wireless guest services which allows businesses to provide controlled network access to visitors; added LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) support which provides centralized control of Edge user privileges; and expanded its WebBlocker categories to 40 providing more granularity in managing web access.
Networks are fluid environments with new users and machines added on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. To ensure these changes do not insert security flaws administrators need tools to simplify management of these changing users in order to meet the business needs of their organizations.
Nowhere is this better exemplified than in cases when consultants or other business partners require Internet access from host networks. WatchGuard’s enhancement to Firebox Edge allows these wireless guests to securely access the Internet as well as specific resources on the corporate network, in a controlled manner.
LDAP support is another feature that greatly simplifies administration. User authentication requests can now be forwarded to an external LDAP server, creating a central repository that is easier to manage. In cases where users change frequently this will help administrators guarantee security policies remain consistent.
WatchGuard’s WebBlocker is an integrated URL filtering service that saves organizations time and money in lost productivity. By increasing WebBlocker categories to 40, WatchGuard makes it possible for administrators to tailor web access to meet specific business needs.
“Our customers demand strong security solutions that are simple and intuitive to deploy,” said John Stuckey, WatchGuard vice president of marketing. “With these enhancements to Firebox X Edge we are meeting these customer demands while maintaining WatchGuard’s commitment to strong security, simply done.”
WatchGuard has a comprehensive product line to keep business networks of all sizes safe. The Firebox X Edge is a firewall and VPN endpoint solution for remote offices, telecommuters and small businesses. It protects the edge of the network where remote office workers and telecommuters can inadvertently introduce security threats when they connect to the central network. The Firebox X Core is WatchGuard’s flagship line of Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances, providing zero-day protection by inspecting traffic flowing into networks at multiple layers, proactively blocking viruses, worms, spyware, trojans, and blended threats without relying on signatures. Firebox X Peak extends Unified Threat Management protection to more advanced networks, providing up to 1 Gbps firewall throughput.
