WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WGRD), a leading provider of network security, received Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) Certification from the Canadian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme (CCS) distinguishing WatchGuard’s products as designed, tested and evaluated to meet the stringent requirements of the Common Criteria Standard, ISO 15408. The Common Criteria (CC) certification is a globally accepted standard for evaluating the security features and capabilities of information technology products. CC certifications are mutually accepted by all 21 countries participating in the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA), including the United States government through the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).
"Achieving Common Criteria certification and an EAL 4 designation is an important milestone for WatchGuard," said John Stuckey, WatchGuard vice president of marketing. "As a recognized global standard, Common Criteria certification provides government agencies and commercial enterprises with proven third-party assurance that our solutions can meet the toughest demands of mission-critical security environments. It further demonstrates WatchGuard’s commitment to delivering solutions that are supported and validated by rigorous international technology standards."
Common Criteria is an internationally recognized set of guidelines, which define a common infrastructure for IT security products. The standard consists of several predetermined assurance levels that the vendor can choose to be tested against, each one more stringent than the last. The evaluation process is rigorous and can take months or years to complete. The WatchGuard Firebox X Core Series and the WatchGuard Firebox X Peak Series running Fireware version 8.0 were tested by Electronic Warfare Associates-Canada, Limited (EWA-Canada), which operates an independent third-party Common Criteria Test Lab.
WatchGuard partnered with Corsec Security, a consulting firm with more than eight years of validation experience, to facilitate the completion of the certification process. "Corsec is excited to have partnered with WatchGuard on the evaluation of its network security solutions," said John Morris, president and co-founder of Corsec Security. "WatchGuard’s commitment to achieving the Common Criteria certification further demonstrates its depth of understanding of the network security marketplace and its customers’ requirements."
"The CC certification of the Firebox X Core and Peak products is an important step because WatchGuard has now achieved an internationally recognized standard for network security products," said Erin Connor, director of the EWA-Canada test lab. "Achieving this level of certification demonstrates WatchGuard’s commitment to providing high quality security solutions to their customers for the protection of critical networks."

WatchGuard Firebox X Peak, Core and Fireware Pro
The Firebox X Peak offers businesses Gigabit connection speeds, high port density and advanced networking features for a fraction of the cost of comparable products. This makes the Peak line ideal for the complex, demanding, high-speed networks that are increasingly commonplace in organizations of all sizes. The appliance’s throughput capacity and high port density (10 ports, three of which are Gigabit-capable) ensure the Firebox X Peak has the performance and flexibility required to segment and strongly secure these networks.
Fireware Pro is the advanced security and network operating system that comes standard on Firebox X Peak, and is available as an upgrade for the Firebox X500 to X2500 models. In Fireware Pro, WatchGuard has enhanced its Intelligent Layered Security (ILS), which provides stronger protection by stopping viruses, spyware, worms, Trojan horses and blended threats without signatures. Smart default settings ensure businesses are protected from the outset, exemplifying again how WatchGuard provides stronger security right out of the box.
Running Fireware Pro, Firebox X Core models can have the same advanced networking features found in the Firebox X Peak line, including: multi-WAN failover and load sharing, traffic management and QoS, high availability, redundancy and full port independence. The Firebox X Core comes in four models and operates at throughput speeds of 100-300 Mbps for firewall and 20-130 Mbps for VPN traffic.
