DHL Thailand, part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, the world's leading postal and logistics group, has extended its multi-year commitment to strengthen their local communities and employment prospects for young students by implementing a three day, career oriented training program, "Ton Kla Camp" (young plant) for 29 youths of SOS Children's Villages Thailand from five SOS Children's Villages in Bangpoo Samutprakarn, Hatyai Songkla, Nongkhai, Chiang Rai and Phuket.
The training sessions were led by DHL employees from DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain and DHL Global Forwarding in Thailand, and distinguished experts Dr Jitra Dudsdeemaytha, President of the Human Happiness Development Center Project at Srinakharinwirot University and Akarin Puthongklom, Trainer at Training2Goal Co., Ltd. The training modules featured skills-based aptitude and personality tests, English classes to help prepare for job interviews and practical tips to facilitate employability, personal development and workplace competency.
"DHL in Thailand is passionate about its commitment in supporting SOS Children's Villages throughout the country and we are doing everything we can to take steps to meet the educational and future employment needs of underprivileged youth in Thailand," said Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina. "The potential of these youths are both enormous and untapped. We take great pleasure in serving as a catalyst to help them 'live their dreams' and become great employees, entrepreneurs and leaders."
Also leading inspirational discussions with the students was Dutch national Tom Coronel, considered one of the world's most experienced race car drivers. Tom will be racing at an officially sanctioned FIA World Touring Car Championship race at the Buriram United International Circuit on November SOS Children, 2DHL ThailandSOS Children5. DHL has been the Official Logistics Partner of the FIA WTCC since 2DHL ThailandSOS ChildrenDHL Thailand.
"The first step for these youths in achieving their goals and realizing their dreams is to believe in themselves, develop confidence and a strong sense of self-worth," said
Mr Coronel. "We see it in racing all the time where the driver with perhaps the best car and support team often comes up short. It is the mental toughness and drive to succeed that often determines the winner. At the session today organized by DHL, I hope I contributed a part to help the youths at SOS Children's Villages Thailand build the confidence to win in whatever they decide to do with their lives."
Earlier this year, DHL Thailand donated a collection of books and a bookshelf to the SOS Children's Village Chiang Rai, helping to re-stock and renovate a library damaged by last year's 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
In addition, the DHL team organized a first aid session for youth and staff members of SOS Children's Village, supported by the local Sirikorn Chiang Rai Rescue Association.
The children were introduced to a number of common emergency situations and shown how to provide first aid responses by well-trained specialists.
Deutsche Post DHL Group launched its global partnership with SOS Children's Villages in 2DHL ThailandSOS ChildrenDHL Thailand. The partnership helps provide young people between the ages of SOS Children5 and 25 with better opportunities for a professional career, an independent and steady source of income and a self-determined life.
