Inviting Thai people to cheer Phoenix team in RoboCup 2011, RoboCupSoccer, Humanoid League

Bangkok--30 Jun--Seagate Technology

Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited, the Thai Robotics Society (TRS), the Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) are pleased to invite Thai people to cheer Phoenix of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi which will take part in the RoboCup 2011, RoboCupSoccer, Humanoid League to be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey on July 5-11 this year. This year, 34 qualified robot teams worldwide are invited to take part in the Humanoid League of RoboCupSoccer. Phoenix team members, the winner of Thailand Humanoid Robot Soccer Championship 2011 will travel from Thailand to participate in RoboCup 2011 in Turkey with Dr. Thavida Maneewan, TRS president; deputy director of Research, FIBO, KMUTT and team advisor. Phoenix team members include Mr. Nattapong Kaewlek, Mr. Anont Puangrat and Mr. Umnaj Butr-songka. “By adjusting certain functions of goalkeepers and other parts of our Humanoid soccer robots, Phoenix team is now ready for challenges in the international contest. The research and development of robotics are best fuelled by synergistic exchanges of knowledge and expertise. An international event like RoboCup 2011 will open up countless avenues and untold opportunities for borderless learning in robotic creation, new technologies, sensors utilization, program development and systems integration. It will help to promote the exchange of knowledge across countries and this will be highly beneficial for aspiring and veteran robotic creators around the world,” said Dr. Thavida. The Humanoid League of RoboCupSoccer is the most challenging soccer-robot competition. Humanoid robots need to work autonomously under its size and balance limitation. Each robot needs to work independently from each other by using only the attached processor and it may communicate only via the wireless network provided by the organizer. In this contest, a football match is played by two teams. Each team consists of not more than three players; one of them must be designated as goalkeeper. The match lasts two equal periods of ten minutes. Size of the battle field has been reduced to 4 x 6 meters to fit the robots size. The ball used in each football match is the standard size orange tennis ball. The team that scores the most goals in the match wins. Click for photo release at www.thaipr.net
