Thai Airways International Public Company Limited successfully migrated its operational base from Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport, which was marked by the last flight to depart from Bangkok International Airport to Shanghai, the Peoples Republic of China, and the first flight to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport from Delhi, India.
THAI’s six main activities, those being Cargo and Mail Commercial, Ground Support Equipment Services, Catering Services, Aircraft Maintenance Center, Customer Services, and Operations Center, have completely transferred their equipment and personnel to Suvarnabhumi Airport, whereby a total of 1.8 million pieces have been moved.

Furthermore, THAI organized a farewell event at Bangkok International Airport to celebrate the last flight to depart from the airport destined for Shanghai. Part of the farewell event included a photo exhibition in fond farewell to Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport, featuring an exhibition of photographs marking the history of the airport that has served the world traveling to and from Bangkok to all points on the globe. THAI was able to obtain rare and inspiring photos of historical flights through Don Muang, one of the oldest airports in Southeast Asia.

THAI’s last flight to depart from Bangkok International Airport on 27 September 2006, flight TG662/ 27 Sept., departs from Bangkok at 01.45 hours and arrives in Shanghai at 07.00 hrs. After the close of Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport on the evening of 27 September, the first flight to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be from Delhi. Flight TG316/ 27 Sept. will depart from Delhi at 23.30 hrs. on 27 September 2006 and arrive at 05.05 hrs. on 28 September 2006 at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Overnight, THAI will transfer the parking location of its aircraft. A total of 22 aircraft will be flown as ferry flights without passengers from Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport. This move is being conducted in order to be to be fully prepared for the transfer to the new airport operational base, so that THAI will be completely ready to operate flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport on 28 September, the date that all airlines will begin to fly to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport… the World’s Newest Crossroads.
